Daleiden lies in the Islek region, 6.6 kilometres from the Luxembourg border. The town is officially recognised as a health resort, and its themes range from woodland and stream landscapes to natural and historical sites. You can shape your stay around hikes, the special features of a protected area, or exploring history.

Nature and Trails in Daleiden

The Ginsterheiden im Irsental bei Daleiden nature reserve covers 76 hectares and lies within the municipal areas of Daleiden, Irrhausen and Olmscheid. Its conservation objectives include protecting fossil-bearing sedimentary layers for scientific and natural-historical reasons. The area’s geological significance is therefore part of the reserve’s description, alongside its landscape.

The Naturpark-Südeifel hiking trail no. 03 in Daleiden is a moderately difficult circular route, 14.1 kilometres long. It follows the Heimbach and Mühlbach streams and runs through woodland for much of its length. The route can also be travelled using a Swiss-Trac wheelchair power attachment. If you include it in your travel plans, you can use its stated length and difficulty as a guide.

The accessible Comfort Path Daleiden offers a different way to discover the town. Along the path, an information board with legends and illustrations tells visitors about the Willibrord Fountain, named after Saint Willibrord. The circular trail and the Comfort Path thus lead to different themes: one is about woodland, streams and a designated hiking route; the other, a fountain and its traditions.

Places of Remembrance and Local Life

With more than 3,000 people killed in the Second World War buried there, the war cemetery in Daleiden is the largest military cemetery of honour in Rhineland-Palatinate. An information building at the entrance allows visitors, among other things, to consult lists of the fallen by name. The lists give the memorial site a personal dimension and complement the perspective on its scale and historical significance.

Local life also has a traditional touch: Daleiden hosts a Christmas market that is very popular with residents and visitors. Alongside hiking and history, it is a cultural point of interest in its own right.
