Feuerscheid combines a striking hillside location with paths through forests and past small streams. The main village lies on a southeast-facing slope at an average elevation of 470 metres. Feuerscheid’s local area extends from the Schwarzbach in the Nimstal valley to Denterhof on the Lascheid Plateau. You can discover the village through its landscape as well as its traditions and architectural history.

Hiking between forest and views

There are three signposted hiking trails in Feuerscheid. The marked nature trails lead through forests and past small streams. A special viewpoint is the Krummenacker lookout, which offers panoramic views of Feuerscheid. Choose between different experiences: a walk through forest and stream scenery, or the view from the lookout. Check the local signs before setting out on a hike.

Cycling on Eifel cycle routes is also promoted in Feuerscheid. For hiking, follow the marked local trails; for cycling, Eifel cycle routes are an option. Before a bike ride, it is worth checking the route conditions and signage.

Local history and traditions

Feuerscheid was almost destroyed by three major fires. The Scheefsonndich tradition is another part of village life: on the Sunday after Ash Wednesday, a large bonfire is made from straw or brushwood. After the fire, the couple most recently married traditionally prepare Nuuzen and egg pancakes, which are then offered to visitors. Dates and arrangements may vary.

The Feuerscheid Hiking Days also bring together exercise and group activities. These include a torch-lit hike for children followed by roasting bread on sticks, as well as a guided hike with games. As dates and arrangements for this recurring programme may vary, check the details of the event in advance.

The local dialect belongs to the Moselle Franconian dialect group. The architectural history can be traced through two dates: the branch church of St. Valentinus was consecrated on 15 February 1960. Hardt Chapel was built in 1957 to replace an earlier building and contains a wooden relief of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.
