Kleinlangenfeld brings together clearly defined attractions: the history of the St. Agatha and St. Lucia Chapel, a striking basalt stone and a raised bog southeast of the village. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you are most interested in local history, natural monuments or both.

Chapel and Cultural Monuments

The original St. Agatha and St. Lucia Chapel was built in 1767. It was destroyed in a bombing raid on Ash Wednesday 1945; the replacement chapel was consecrated in 1953. Four Baroque figures of saints inside and a Baroque wayside shrine in front of the chapel’s east side are part of the protected monument inventory.

Another cultural monument is Langer Stein in Kleinlangenfeld Forest. In June 2022, it was listed as a protected cultural monument. The obelisk-shaped basalt stone has an engraved cross at the top of each of its four sides. Its clearly described form gives the monument a different appearance from the chapel and its Baroque furnishings.

Nature, Land Use and Hiking Trails

Southeast of Kleinlangenfeld lies the Hochmoor auf der Holscheid, a registered natural monument. Land use can also be viewed in a specific time frame: Kleinlangenfeld covers 782 hectares. As of the statistical reference date of 31 December 2019, agricultural land accounted for 45.5 percent and forest for around 45.8 percent. In that reference year, the two shares were therefore nearly equal.

The hiking trail signage is considered in need of improvement.

Facilities and Accommodation

Kleinlangenfeld also has a small sports and play area. If you are planning to use this particular area, check its current status in advance.

More Cultural Attractions in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm

Beyond Kleinlangenfeld, the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm offers other, distinct cultural attractions. At the Mühlenberger Stollen Bleialf visitor mine, one-hour tours introduce visitors to the history of ore mining in Bleialf, from geology to applied technology. The visitor mine also has a mining trail with numerous information panels on the area’s mining history. Check the seasonal tour dates before your trip.

At the Devonium in Waxweiler, complex concepts in paleontology and the science of fossil life are conveyed in a playful way. The Westwall Museum has a different focus: it is housed on three accessible levels of a bunker and presents a military history exhibition in underground passages and rooms.

The water castle of Rittersdorf, around 700 years old, has been preserved almost unchanged since it was built and offers an impressive picture of late medieval and early modern Renaissance residential culture. The castle has a privately run restaurant serving fine regional cuisine. Check whether the restaurant is open on your planned visit date.
