Drebach combines nature observation with trails that appeal to a wide range of interests: On the Planet Trail, you’ll encounter models of the solar system, while the crocus meadows offer a seasonal natural spectacle in spring. Other attractions include astronomy events, castle and museum exhibits, and further opportunities for an active day out. Which of these experiences you want to shape your stay can also be a helpful first consideration when choosing accommodation.

Crocus meadows and respect for nature

The Drebach crocus meadows comprise more than 40 protected natural monuments covering around seven hectares. The purple Drebach spring crocus grows here. The bloom is a seasonal experience: Each year, it can be observed approximately between early March and late April, for around two to three weeks. The exact timing can vary with the weather. As the areas are protected, please stay on the paths and do not enter the crocus areas. This allows you to enjoy observing nature while showing due consideration.

Walking the Planet Trail

The Planet Trail is a six-kilometre one-way route connecting Ehrenfriedersdorf and Drebach. It illustrates the relative sizes of the solar system at a scale of 1:1 billion: The model of the Sun is 1.40 metres tall, while the Pluto model is 0.3 centimetres tall. Along the way, you can also enjoy views of the former Sauberg mining area, the Greifensteine area, and the Ore Mountain ridge. The trail is marked in white-green-white. When planning your route, check the local signage and parking situation at the starting point; trail markings and parking options may change on site.

The Planet Trail is a one-way point-to-point hike, not a loop that returns to the starting point. The Lindenweg offers an alternative return route without retracing the same section of trail. There are also marked hiking trails around Drebach with parking at or near their respective starting points. For another tour, the Panorama Tour around Drebach starts and ends at the car park by the Planet Trail. It is a 15.01-kilometre loop rated easy and suitable for cycling. This lets you choose between a linear hiking route and a loop tour without confusing their lengths or intended uses.

Stars, a castle, and Ore Mountain traditions

At the Zeiss Planetarium Drebach, you’ll find a 200-square-metre dome and a modern Zeiss planetarium system for journeys into the world of the stars. Events are held whatever the weather. This offers a clear contrast with the hiking trails and seasonal crocus bloom: astronomy can also be part of your visit regardless of the weather. Check the event schedule before your visit.

Scharfenstein Castle was built around 1250 during the settlement of the Ore Mountains, after silver ore had been discovered there. The castle is designed as a family-oriented visitor attraction, offering opportunities to marvel, learn, and take part. The castle museum focuses on Karl Stülpner and almost 800 years of the castle’s history. The Christmas and Toy Museum at Scharfenstein Castle presents Ore Mountain mining traditions, folk art, and the craft of making Reifentiere (hoop animals). Together, these subjects offer insights into history and regional artistic traditions, although they do not all provide the same perspective on the past.

Another option for warm days

Venusberg open-air swimming pool has a diving facility, a large water slide, a heated children’s pool, a beach volleyball court, a playground, and a kiosk. It operates seasonally and is weather-dependent. If a day at the pool is part of your plans, take this seasonal limitation into account and check the current opening hours in advance.
