Neukirchen/Pleiße displays its landscape in striking lines: the settlement stretches along both sides of the Pleiße, and four watercourses form valley meadows within the municipality. There is also a mill with a history, a church with an older tower, and trails that cross the area in different directions. This lets you give different weight to landscape, culture and outdoor activities when planning your stay.

Valley meadows and trail routes

The Pleiße, Lauterbach, Döbitzbach and Spanierbach form valley meadows within the municipality. These watercourses give the local landscape a distinctive structure of riverside and streamside areas and open meadows. Those who want to combine nature and local history when choosing a destination will find a range of themes for planning their days here, rather than having to settle on just one kind of excursion.

Mill, church and castle

Neukirchen’s St. Martin’s Church dates from 1869 to 1870; its tower is older. This contrast in age makes the church a prominent historical landmark. The history of Gräfenmühle reaches further back: the present-day mill was built in 1725 on the site of the former Angermühle, also known as Ungermühle. The historic Gräfenmühlengut is open to the public as a centre for nature conservation, education and culture.

Lauterbach Castle offers a different architectural accent: it is a Neo-Renaissance building with valuable interior furnishings. St. Martin’s Church, Gräfenmühle and the castle thus represent different facets of local history—from the older tower and the site of a former mill to the Neo-Renaissance. This gives you a cultural dimension to your travel plans that you can alternate with the area’s landscape and trail themes.

The regional Neukirchen–Dänkritz–Crimmitschau–Thonhausen hiking trail crosses the municipality from east to west. The Pleiße Cycle Path, a major tourist cycling route, runs through Neukirchen/Pleiße from north to south. The two routes therefore offer different directions for your plans: the hiking trail crosses the municipality from east to west, while the cycle path runs through the town from north to south.
