North Frisia as a broader travel destination takes you beyond Almdorf. The region has 441 kilometres of coastline. The five North Frisian islands in Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park include Sylt, Föhr and Amrum. The North Frisian Wadden Sea is an official nature reserve and part of Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park.
There are also various cycling options across the wider North Frisia area. The Beltringharder Route is 27 kilometres long and starts in Lüttmoorsiel; the Stollberg-Koog Tour is 35 kilometres long and starts in Reußenköge at the Amsinck-Haus. The routes differ in length by eight kilometres and start at different points. Another example is the “Eiderstedter Landpartie” cycle tour, which passes through the vast marshland of North Frisia. It offers quiet routes, nature and glimpses of rural life with cows and sheep.
The North Sea Cycle Route runs through North Frisia and is part of the “North Sea Cycle Route.” North Frisia can also be reached by bike via the international long-distance Grenzroute cycling route.
Nature observation and opportunities to learn are also part of the wider North Frisia area. At Hauke-Haien-Koog, you can observe a rich variety of birdlife. The Schlüttsiel Information Centre has a natural history exhibition and offers guided tours of the Wadden Sea and nature conservation almost every day. In suitable weather, a guided walk along the sea dike follows.
North Frisia also offers cultural and culinary experiences. Among the districts of Schleswig-Holstein, the region has the highest concentration of museums and the largest number of registered cultural monuments. In northern North Frisia, Pharisäer is one of the classic regional specialities: hot coffee with a shot of rum and a topping of whipped cream.
