Wisch combines a long history as a village with country lanes through hedgerows and meadows. It is one of the oldest villages in the Probstei and was first mentioned in 1216. Between historic farmsteads, the village centre and paths into the countryside, you will find a variety of starting points for your stay.

Village history, the village centre and winter

Historic settlement patterns are still visible in Wisch today, in the street layout and in preserved historic buildings and farmsteads. At the heart of the village centre stands the Peace Oak. A circular route runs along Redder, Moor and Dorfstraße and provides a clear way to explore the village centre.

The landscape is also shaped by a striking structure: a 4.5-metre-high dike protects Wisch and its land from flooding. A seasonal contrast is offered by Jägersberg, which children from the surrounding area use as a sledding hill in winter. The village thus brings historic features and a winter meeting place together, while offering interests that are not limited to one season.

Country lanes, cycling and horse riding

Country lanes pass through hedgerows and meadows all the way to the beach. They can be used for walking, cycling and horse riding. If you would rather explore a longer route, Wisch offers direct access to the Probstei hiking and cycling network. The local country lanes and the wider network therefore offer different scales for outdoor activities.

For cycling, SprottenFlotte bike-sharing stations are located at the corner of Postweg and Kaiserkoppel and at the Heidkate car park. Together with the local paths, these locations offer a practical reference if you would like to include cycling in your trip. There is also a campsite in Wisch’s tourism area.

Heidkate: beach and water sports

Heidkate has a 3.7-kilometre natural beach with fine sand, and no beach fee is charged. The Heidkate lighthouse is a landmark and helps visitors find their way to the beach. The car park is located directly behind the dike and can be reached via the B502 and K33.

The beach areas offer different highlights: the dog beach stretches across three groynes; there is also a large surfers’ beach with a surf school. Two sections are designated for kite flying. Activities in Heidkate include surfing, kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and surf fishing. This makes it possible to appreciate the beach not only as a coastal landscape, but also in terms of specific interests on the water.

Choose the right focus for your accommodation search

Two different themes can help with your trip planning: Wisch offers village history, country lanes and a campsite in its tourism area; Heidkate is known for beach and water sports. If you are mainly interested in the village centre and walking routes, the village layout and trail network are useful points of reference. If you are planning to focus on beach activities, the offerings in Heidkate provide a different perspective.

Plön as a wider travel destination

The wider travel destination of Plön opens up another scale of landscape. The district of Plön is home to around 80 lakes, including Lake Großer Plöner See, covering 29 km², and Lake Selenter See, covering 22 km². The district lies between the Baltic Sea and Holstein Switzerland and has around 50 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline. These regional features add a distinct perspective on the travel destination of Plön to the view of Wisch.
