Wittmoldt is shaped by the Schwentine and Lake Kleiner Plöner See. Gut Wittmoldt is located on a peninsula in Lake Kleiner Plöner See in Holstein Switzerland. The estate has direct access to the water and an art and cultural trail along the peninsula shore. Anyone interested in outdoor art, landscapes and estate history can experience all these themes together along the lakeside path.

Lakeside Path and Sculptures Along the Shore

The lakeside path begins in the heart of the old estate and runs through its former park. Along the way, it brings together sculptures by Bernhard G. Lehmann and a natural lakeshore landscape. A total of 35 sculptures are dotted along the shore of the Gut Wittmoldt peninsula. The works and the natural shoreline form the two sides of this art trail: you will encounter both sculpted works and the lake’s natural shoreline. The lakeside path is permanently open to visitors and can be visited free of charge.

Manor House and History

The manor house at Gut Wittmoldt was built in 1895 in the Historicist style. Another historical layer dates back to the 18th century, when Wittmoldt had an important glassworks, particularly for bottle production. These two themes differ in period and subject: the manor house shapes the history of the estate, while the glassworks is part of the history of the village.

The former connection to Plön is also part of the village’s history. A road connection to Plön brought an end to the centuries-old ferry route from Wittmoldt via Dörnick and the Schwentine to Plön. The village’s history can therefore be traced not only through the manor house and glassworks, but also through this change in the connection to Plön.

Accommodation at Gut Wittmoldt

Gut Wittmoldt offers holiday accommodation and historic bed-and-breakfast rooms with direct access to the lake. A stay at the estate is therefore a practical way to combine accommodation with time by the lake. The lakeside path and shoreline landscape provide a cultural and scenic backdrop.

The manor house also offers adaptable spaces for conferences, retreats, workshops and evening events. Alongside overnight stays, the estate also focuses on spaces for a range of event formats. When planning your visit, you can decide whether it will be shaped primarily by the estate’s history and lakeside path or by an event in the manor house.

Plön as the Broader Setting

The wider destination of Plön includes around 80 lakes in Plön District. These include Lake Großer Plöner See, covering 29 km², and Lake Selenter See, covering 22 km². Plön District lies between the Baltic Sea and Holstein Switzerland and has about 50 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline. These figures describe the wider destination of Plön; Wittmoldt’s own landscape is shaped by the Schwentine and Lake Kleiner Plöner See.

In the town of Plön, guided canoe tours pass through five of the town’s twelve lakes. They combine paddling with information about Plön, its lakes and Holstein Switzerland. This lets you choose between Wittmoldt’s lakeside path with its sculptures and shoreline landscape, and a guided canoe tour in Plön featuring information about the town and landscape.
