Kronsgaard: Natural Beach on the Baltic Sea
Accommodation in Kronsgaard
A three-kilometre-long natural beach on the open Baltic Sea defines Kronsgaard. Swimming is possible here in summer; all year round, the beach invites you to take walks with views towards the Danish South Sea. You can tailor your stay to your interests: beach walks are possible year-round, while swimming is part of a summer day at the beach. Swimming conditions may vary seasonally.
Getting your bearings at the beach and horse riding
Bicycle racks are available at every beach access point. Signposted car parks are located at Golsmaas, Seeblick, Pottloch and Dänische Straße. Toilets are available at Pottloch and Drecht; a beach wheelchair is located at the DLRG building in Hasselberg. If a particular facility is important for your day at the beach, check that it is available before setting off.
Horse riding is permitted on Kronsgaard Beach along the designated horse-riding section between the main access point at Pottloch and the holiday home area of Golsmaas. Seasonal rules apply. If you are planning a ride, check these before your trip so that your plans fit the period currently in effect.
Nature and history in the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination
If you would like to explore nature reserves and landscapes as well as the beach, the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination offers a range of places to visit. Geltinger Birk covers 773 hectares and is the largest nature reserve in the Schleswig-Flensburg district. Well-maintained paths and guided walks offer insights into the local flora and fauna. Holnis offers another focus on nature. It is the northernmost tip of the Schleswig-Holstein young moraine landscape, where more than 130 bird species can be observed, including around 65 breeding species.
Schlei Nature Park shapes the landscape of Schleswig-Flensburg with gently rolling hills, forests, hedgerow landscapes, rapeseed and cereal fields, sandy beaches and bathing bays. The Schlei’s brackish-water areas also provide a habitat for many endangered bird species. Nature watching and varied landscapes complement the beach theme that defines Kronsgaard.
The wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination also offers notable points of interest for cultural history: Haithabu and the Danewerk have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since June 2018. More than 25 kilometres of the Danewerk rampart still remain today. The historic memorial site and Idstedt Museum provide information about German-Danish history surrounding the uprising of 1848 and the Battle of Idstedt.
In Schleswig-Flensburg, the Tolk-Schau family and leisure park offers a different kind of experience. Attractions at Tolk-Schau include rides, playgrounds, park trains, fairy-tale huts and more than 100 life-size dinosaurs. In the Schleswig-Flensburg destination, nature, history and leisure-park experiences are distinct themes to explore.
