Discover Immenhausen
Accommodation in Immenhausen
Immenhausen combines urban history, glass design and trails offering a glimpse into the area’s settlement and mining past.
Urban history and glass design
A city wall about 3 km long, dating from the 13th century, encircles the historic town centre. Information panels in the Horseshoe Tower cover the town’s history and urban renewal. The tower opened to visitors in June 2004; keys for access are available from the town hall or the Glass Museum during their opening hours. Check the opening hours and key arrangements if you plan to visit the tower. The Immenhausen Glass Museum focuses on functional glassware. Its permanent exhibitions trace its history from Art Nouveau to the present day and illustrate the development of glass design from 1890 to today through chalices, vases, bowls and other decorative and household glassware. The town’s history and urban renewal sit alongside a history of design that can be explored through tangible everyday and decorative objects.
Eco Trails with different themes
Established in 2007, the Ahlberg-Mariendorf Cultural History Eco Trail starts in Mariendorf, is about 4.5 km long and explores more than 2,000 years of settlement history around Ahlberg. The Holzhausen Reinhardswald Mining Eco Trail is considerably longer, at around 17.2 km in total, and leads to former mine sites on Gahrenberg, Kleeberg and Osterberg. Its three sections can be hiked from the “Roter Stock” or “Bürgerhaus” car parks in Holzhausen. The Mining Eco Trail routes pass through the landscape of the southern Reinhardswald and are easy to walk, with only gentle gradients. Together, the trails cover two different historical themes and distances: settlement history on the shorter Ahlberg route and mining history on the longer trail. Check current parking conditions and trail conditions in advance.
