Discover Brombachtal: Panoramas, Trails and History
Accommodation in Brombachtal
Brombachtal can be explored through a range of travel interests: the XXL bench in Langenbrombach offers panoramic views of the Odenwald, several named trails start at different locations, and the fountain in Kirchbrombach and the gallows stones between Kirchbrombach and Hembach lead to local festival traditions and history. Landscape and outdoor activity sit alongside specific historical topics. To plan your visit, you can first decide which of these themes you would like to shape your stay.
Views and hiking trails
The XXL bench in Langenbrombach offers panoramic views of the Odenwald. This gives the landscape a clear focal point, while the circular trails add orientation through their starting locations.
Circular Trail B 1 (Müllertsweg) starts in Birkert, and Circular Trail B 3 (Panoramaweg) in Kirchbrombach. Circular Trail B 5 (Russeneiche Weg) starts in Langenbrombach, and Circular Trail B 6 (Höller Weg) in Hembach. The Eichelsrundweg and Circular Trail B 4 (Brombach-Weg) also start in Kirchbrombach. Three of the trails listed therefore share the same starting point, while Birkert, Langenbrombach and Hembach each offer another starting location. If you want to compare hiking trails by their stated starting point, these place names give you a practical starting point for planning.
The fountain festival and traces of history
Built in 1873, the village fountain is in Kirchbrombach on Höhenstraße, along the way towards Böllstein. During the fountain festival, held on an evening in July each year, the street becomes a festival site. Guests gather over strawberry punch, beer, “Weck und Worscht” (bread rolls and sausage) and music. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the specific event date in advance.
The gallows stones on Galgenberg between Kirchbrombach and Hembach are believed to be the remains of a three-person wooden gallows that belonged to the jurisdiction of the Zent Kirchbrombach. The oldest known record of the gallows is on a map from 1610. Public executions at the gallows on Galgenberg ceased in the mid-19th century. The map provides an early historical reference; the end of the executions marks a later chapter in the site’s history.
In the wider destination of the Odenwald
Breuberg Castle has a history of more than 850 years and is one of the largest and best-preserved castles in southern Germany. The Breuberg Museum is located inside the castle. The Roman Villa Haselburg near Hummetroth offers a different historical perspective: it is an excavated and reconstructed villa rustica dating from the 2nd century AD. The castle and the Roman site represent different historical perspectives within the wider destination of the Odenwald.
The Felsenmeer in Lautertal also brings together natural and cultural history. Its formation goes back to geological processes that began more than 340 million years ago; numerous relics of Roman stoneworking from the 3rd and 4th centuries give the site historical significance. The Felsenmeer Information Centre provides information about the formation of the Felsenmeer, Roman stoneworking, the Siegfried’s Spring and the Bergstraße-Odenwald Geo-Nature Park. Guided tours and talks on geological development, stoneworking, legends, and the wildlife and habitat of Felsberg can be booked through the information centre. Check current availability if you are planning a guided tour or a talk.
