Goldenstedt: Moor, Freizeit und Geschichte
Accommodation in Goldenstedt
Goldenstedt offers a variety of ways to spend time outdoors together while discovering nature, getting active and exploring history. A guided ride into the moor, games and sports in the multigenerational park, and the Arkeburg ring fort offer different highlights. You can also find your own interests for your stay at Hartensbergsee and among the historical exhibits. When planning your accommodation, it helps to first consider which of these experiences you want to shape your trip.
Experience the moor and discover the seasons
At the NIZ Goldenstedt nature conservation and information centre, also known as “Haus im Moor” (“House in the Moor”), a roughly 90-minute moor railway ride with an expert guide is offered. Check operating days before travelling. The NIZ also has a barefoot trail. This means you can enjoy both a guided ride and a path to explore on your own.
At the entrance to the multigenerational park, the wind-powered artwork “Moving Birds” evokes flying cranes. The birds stop in the Goldenstedt Moor every year from October to February. The artwork and the seasonal stopover offer different perspectives: one is an installation in the park, the other a recurring natural event in the moor.
Play, sports and time at Hartensbergsee
The multigenerational park brings together several ways to enjoy your free time. Its facilities include an accessible path network and an outdoor fitness area with a range of exercise equipment. The playground has a dedicated area for toddlers, as well as climbing equipment for older children, trampolines and swings. There are also chess and mill games, table tennis tables, a boules court and a basketball court. If you are planning a visit with children, the playground facilities are also clearly described by age group.
At Hartensbergsee, Tiefer Weg 20, there is an 18-hole mini golf course. It was newly built in spring 2010 and is right next to the Joba Beach-Club, the playground and the kiosk. As opening hours and nearby facilities can change, check the latest information before your visit.
There is also guidance for canoe trips: the municipality of Goldenstedt has three canoe launch and landing points. Depending on whether you want to focus on a trip on the water, mini golf or the park’s facilities, you’ll find different ideas for spending time together.
Arkeburg and traces of the past
Along Burgweg, individuals, groups and school classes can explore the history of the Arkeburg ring fort. The route combines learning about a specific historic site with exploring the outdoors.
Another historical feature is part of the listed Bredemeyers Hof complex: the boiler house, dating from 1881, with its 18-metre-high chimney. At Amberger Oldtimerhof, vintage cars, trucks and tractors, as well as a distinctive “Hökerwagen” (peddler’s cart), are on display. Visits are by prior arrangement. These stops offer a different focus from the activities in the park: here, the emphasis is on a protected historic complex and vintage vehicles.
Vechta as a wider travel destination
The wider travel destination of Vechta also offers options for planning beyond individual experiences in Goldenstedt. Vechta district has 31 hiking routes through floodplain and moor landscapes, forests and hill country, as well as past historic sights and natural monuments. The routes are marked according to the quality criteria of the German Hiking Association and have uniform signposting. For cycling, the district’s network covers around 870 kilometres and includes 16 themed routes, including “Experience stately homes” and “Art, culture and nature”. Check the current route selection and signposting when planning your trip.
