A Neo-Gothic brick church with Romanesque elements inside and a protected lowland bog complex give Pampow two distinct facets. They are joined by annual cultural highlights and traces of a historic trade route. Those planning a trip can choose between architectural and local history, events and landscape.

Pampow Church: Brickwork and a Wooden Ensemble

Pampow Church is a Neo-Gothic brick church, with additional Romanesque stylistic elements inside. It was built from 1896 to 1898 based on designs by architect and church building councillor Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel. It was consecrated in a festive service on 17 July 1898. The construction period and consecration date give the church a clear place in the history of the village.

Inside, the organ case designed by Möckel forms a unified ensemble of high-quality woodworking with the galleries, altar and pulpit. Between the galleries is a wooden barrel vault with ornamental metal braces. The church also preserves an older trace in its bell: it was cast in 1781 by Rostock bell founder Johann Valentin Schultz and transferred from the previous building. The church interior thus brings together the building history of the late 19th century and a furnishing from an earlier period.

Concerts and musical performances take place in the church; its acoustics are considered particularly clear and resonant. This adds a musical dimension to the architectural experience without requiring a particular event date.

Siebendörfer Moor: Landscape and Species

The 596-hectare Siebendörfer Moor is designated a landscape conservation area and is a heavily drained lowland bog complex. It extends partly into the municipality of Pampow; the larger share lies within the territories of Stralendorf, Pampow, Klein Rogahn and Groß Rogahn. The moor is therefore one of Pampow’s landscape features, but extends beyond the municipal area.

The moor formed as a shallow, island-studded glacial till lake silted up. Today, most of it consists of grassland used for meadows and grazing. These details connect the area’s origins with its stated use. To date, 98 bird species have been recorded in the Siebendörfer Moor, including 57 breeding species. These figures add a specific dimension to the picture of the landscape conservation area and its documented birdlife.

Festivals and Historical Traces

Pampow’s annual cultural highlights include the Village and Harvest Festival in September and the Hubertus Mass at Pampow Church. The September festival marks the season, while the Hubertus Mass is specifically associated with the church. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the dates in advance.

The Fährweg, which runs through the village of Pampow, also has a historical connection: it was once part of the old Salt Road from Wismar to Lüneburg.

Getting There and Choosing a Location

The municipality of Pampow is directly connected to the Berlin–Hamburg motorway route via federal highway B 321. When choosing accommodation for your trip, you can take this road connection into account as one factor in selecting a location. For planning what to see, a simple comparison may also help: would you like to focus on architecture and cultural events, or are you particularly interested in the Siebendörfer Moor, its landscape history and its recorded bird species? Pampow’s facts offer different points of interest without limiting the trip to just one theme.
