Lübberstorf combines an appealing landscape shaped by the Ice Age with hiking routes and a rich local history. Neumühle at the southern end of Lake Neukloster, the former bathing area on the circular trail and the Old Manor House offer different ways to explore the area on foot, observe nature and discover its architectural history.

Hikes and the lake

Neumühle is a district of Lübberstorf and lies at the southern end of Lake Neukloster. The circular trail around the lake passes the former bathing area in Lübberstorf. From this spot, you can enjoy a view of Lake Neukloster; with a little luck, you may spot ducks, coots, great crested grebes, as well as golden or white-tailed eagles. The lake view and the chance to observe wildlife give this section of the circular trail a tangible connection to nature.

Hiking routes also lead from Lübberstorf to named destinations away from the lake: Neumühle, Pennewitt, Glambeck and Warin. Another hiking route runs from Lübberstorf via Lüdersdorf to Neu Käterhagen and Groß Tessin. These destinations give you different directions to choose from when planning your hikes, without requiring you to commit to a single route.

A 25-kilometre cycle route runs nearby between Neukloster, Pennewitt and Warin, heading towards Lübberstorf. However, it turns onto a field track towards Neu Pennewitt before reaching the village. The route follows asphalt and sand and has only gentle inclines. This distinguishes it from the hiking routes: these lead from Lübberstorf to their named destinations, while the cycle route branches off before the village.

Manor house and local history

The Old Manor House Lübberstorf is located in the village of Lübberstorf on the site of a former agricultural estate and is surrounded by a large garden. Its old main house was built in 1894 and extensively renovated from 2011 to 2013. The manor house offers two modern holiday apartments and a holiday home. Check availability for your preferred dates when planning your trip.

Guests of the Old Manor House can use the grounds to play football and barbecue, as well as to enjoy a fire bowl and bake bread on sticks. If you are planning a family trip, these activities on the grounds offer a different experience from hiking to the named destinations: use of the grounds is reserved for guests, while the trails lead out from Lübberstorf.

Other buildings are also part of the village’s history: Lübberstorf has a village community building with a community room and an inn with a dance hall. The district monument register dated 28 February 2025 lists a farmhouse at each of Dorfstraße 16 and 17 as a historic monument.

In the Middle Ages, Neumühle was the site of a monastery mill. In 2006, a dilapidated watermill there was demolished. A fish ladder was built in the stream bed at the site of the weir; there is also a small rest area nearby. Both the mill’s history and the more recent changes to the stream are therefore useful local landmarks.

The wider landscape: Nordwestmecklenburg

In the broader travel destination of Nordwestmecklenburg, the north encompasses the “Nordwestmecklenburg Hills and Wismar Bay” landscape, while the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin” stretches across the south. Terminal moraine ridges, gently rolling ground-moraine plateaus, steep and gently sloping stretches of coast, meltwater channels and outwash plains also shape the landscape of Nordwestmecklenburg. The region therefore encompasses a variety of different landscape forms.
