Discover Bröbberow: Nature, Cycling Route and Village History
Accommodation in Bröbberow
In Bröbberow, a landscape shaped by water meets visible village history along the Beke, a tributary of the Warnow. The municipality lies directly on the Copenhagen–Berlin European Cycle Route. Kettle holes, Grenzer See, the church and historic buildings also shape the local landscape. The town can therefore be explored both on a cycling trip and through excursions focused on nature and culture.
Water Landscapes and Birdlife
The Beke river valley, which lies within the municipality of Bröbberow, is maintained as a natural habitat. Kettle holes also shape the landscape: these are water-filled depressions formed during the Ice Age. Many rare plants and animals live in and around near-natural kettle holes. Ten kettle holes on farmland in the municipality were successfully restored in November 2002, and all ten are water-filled again. This connects the formation of these distinctive water features with a concrete change in the local landscape.
Grenzer See lies between Klein Grenz and Groß Grenz and has re-emerged as a birdwatching gem. Two pairs of storks nest in Bröbberow; various protected birds of prey can also be found here. Together with the Beke valley and the kettle holes, the lake offers a varied perspective on the local landscape and its wildlife.
Discover Bröbberow on the Cycling Route
For cyclists, the municipality’s location is a clear point of reference: Bröbberow lies directly on the Copenhagen–Berlin European Cycle Route. The route can shape the character of your stay, while the lake, river valley and kettle holes appeal to other nature interests. When planning, consider whether cycling will be your main focus or whether you would rather spend more time taking in the landscapes and village views.
Village Church and Historic Buildings
In Groß Grenz stands an originally Gothic brick church dating from the 14th century. A bell tower still stands beside it, and the church’s organ and Baroque pews have been restored. The well-preserved and noteworthy farmsteads in Klein Grenz and the old centre of Groß Grenz also invite you to take a walk. The two districts offer different impressions: farmsteads in one, the old village centre in the other.
Other historic buildings mark distinct points in time. The historic Alte Pferdestall in Bröbberow dates from 1881; its exterior was restored based on historical references. The former dairy in Groß Grenz was built in 1891 and expanded over the following years.
The “Atelier im Milchhaus” was also established on the site of the former dairy as an open project where courses and workshops were held. If you plan to visit or take part in an activity there, check the current programme and visiting options before your trip. The association at the village church in Groß Grenz was founded in 2009; it regularly organised concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events.
