Niekrenz is particularly known among travelers interested in historic architecture for its manor house, park and two fieldstone stables. The manor house at Niekrenzer Dorfstraße 40 combines a two-story rendered building with a column-supported entrance loggia, a tower extension and preserved historic details inside. When planning your visit, however, it is important to distinguish the architectural appeal from the possibility of a visit: the manor house is privately owned and is being renovated.

The Manor House and Historic Buildings in Niekrenz

The Rostock district monument list dated February 10, 2021, includes the manor house and park at Niekrenzer Dorfstraße 40, as well as a fieldstone stable at No. 40a and a second at No. 36, which has since been converted into a residential building. This means that Niekrenz’s historic buildings are notable not only for the manor house but also for their different uses: one stable has been converted for residential use, while the other is listed as a fieldstone stable.

The manor house is a two-story rendered building. At the entrance is a loggia supported by columns; a tower extension adds to the exterior. On the park side, there is a terrace. Inside, a garden room decorated with marble has been preserved, along with historic details such as stucco ceilings, doors and wood paneling. The architecture thus includes both distinctive exterior features and carefully designed interiors.

The listed park is overgrown and contains a derelict burial site belonging to the Stever family. Do not assume that the manor house and park are accessible. As ownership and renovation status may change, check access locally before visiting.

Culture in the Broader Destination of Sanitz

The broader destination of Sanitz offers other distinct cultural attractions. Sanitz village church was built in the 13th century. It is a substantial fieldstone building with a half-timbered tower; inside is an altar with paintings by Rudolph Suhrlandt dating from around 1800. The Sanitz Local History Room is part of the Sanitz Community Center.

The Old Forge in Sanitz was first mentioned in historical documents in 1798 and is a late-Baroque oak half-timbered building. The courtyard of the Old Forge is protected as a historic monument; it cannot be visited directly because the building is on private property. Groß Lüsewitz Castle’s manor house is also part of the broader destination of Sanitz. It was built between 1896 and 1898 in the Neo-Renaissance style. A landscaped park adjoins the manor house and was expanded after 1970 to include an equestrian competition ground.
