Wustrow between the Baltic Sea and the Bodden
Accommodation in Wustrow
Wustrow lies between the Baltic Sea and the Saaler Bodden. Fine sandy beaches, a rugged stretch of steep coast, gentle meadows and reed beds shape the landscape. This offers different perspectives when planning your trip: you can cycle along the coast, explore different shorelines on footpaths or experience the Bodden from the water. Deciding which side of Wustrow you want to define your stay is a good starting point for choosing your accommodation.
Explore the coast on foot or by bike
The Fischland-Darß Route of the Baltic Coast Cycle Route passes through Wustrow along the steep coast towards Ahrenshoop. If you plan to take this route, check the current conditions and signs locally. There are also several options for walking: hikes lead along the steep coast to Ahrenshoop, over the dike to Dierhagen, and along the Bodden to Althäger Harbor as well as to Born and Wieck. You can choose between the coastal edge, the dike and the Bodden shore as different route settings for your outings.
Sailing and boat trips on the Bodden
Zeesboote, dinghies and a sailing school are at the heart of Wustrow Harbor. From May to October, visitors can take a trip on the Zeesboote “Butt” or “Bill”; check operating details before your trip. Sturdy Rügenjollen can be rented at the harbor for half a day or a full day. The harbor is also home to the only sailing school on Fischland. It offers beginner and advanced courses for all age groups, as well as courses for sport boat licenses and VHF radio certificates. As course offerings may change, it is advisable to check the current options before making plans.
The traditional “MS Boddenkieker” shipping line offers another perspective on the waterscape. It connects Ribnitz-Damgarten, Dierhagen and Wustrow via the Saaler Bodden and operates up to three times a day. Check the timetable in advance, as routes and frequency may change seasonally. Bodden trips from Wustrow offer opportunities to observe native seabird species and migratory birds in their natural habitat; sightings are not guaranteed.
Woods, stories and culture
The Fischländer Kurwald is in the Baltic seaside resort of Wustrow, directly in front of the dike and close to the beach. Its accessible active recreation options are for all age groups and support health promotion and preventive healthcare. Families with children can also discover the figures along the legends trail; QR codes link to the stories. The Kurwald thus combines exercise with an exploration that also brings stories into the experience.
Contemporary artists present changing exhibitions at the Haus des Gastes. The Wustrow Cultural Trail follows blue stones. Wustrow’s Zeesboot regatta, held every year on the first weekend in July, is a nod to the town’s maritime tradition. The Baltic seaside resort celebrates its pier festival on the last Sunday in August; as dates can vary from year to year, it is worth checking the current program before your trip.
Plan your stay around your interests
The water-based activities each have different time frames: a trip on a Zeesboot is available from May to October, a sturdy Rügenjolle can be rented for half a day or a full day, and the “MS Boddenkieker” operates up to three times a day. When looking for accommodation in Wustrow, consider whether coastal paths, sailing and Bodden trips, or culture are especially important to your trip. That way, you can tailor your search to the experiences you want to make the focus of your stay.
