Accommodation in Immert
Immert: Location and history
Immert sits on a ridge in the Hermeskeil Basin, a natural subregion of the Hunsrück Highlands, at an altitude of around 460 metres above sea level. The earliest documented historical reference to Immert is associated with a deed from 1112 that mentions the Thalfang March. No older finds have been made within the municipality.
A natural monument provides another tangible point of interest in the village: an oak tree in field 8, plot 4, is designated as a natural monument. The designation was changed from two oak trees to one. If you would like to visit the tree, check access in advance. Immert is also close to the Hunsrückhöhenstraße (B 327).
In the nearby Thalfang am Erbeskopf holiday region, the Traumschleifen trails are ideal for hiking; there are mountain biking opportunities around the Erbeskopf. If you plan to take part in these activities, check routes and facilities before you travel.
Bernkastel-Wittlich: Landscapes and places to visit
The wider destination of Bernkastel-Wittlich brings together the volcanic Eifel, the romantic Moselle Valley, and the Hunsrück with its abundance of forests and meadows. At 816 metres, the Erbeskopf is a popular hiking destination and offers a range of winter sports. The National Park Gate at the Erbeskopf provides information about nature and the environment; its interactive multimedia exhibition focuses on forests and moorlands.
In Manderscheid, two medieval castle ruins face each other on steep rocky spurs above the Lieser. The 5.4-kilometre Manderscheid Castle Trail is a moderately difficult circular hike around the castles; it is listed as taking two hours. The castle via ferrata also loops around both castles in three stages, covers around four kilometres in total, and has cable protection along one kilometre.
The pilgrimage church of Maria Heimsuchung in Klausen was consecrated in 1502; to this day, the village is a destination for pilgrims every year. The Cusanus Birthplace in Kues is used as a museum and event venue and features a permanent exhibition about Nicholas of Cusa. The Zylinderhaus presents 90 years of German automotive history, with more than 100 cars, motorcycles and vans.
The historic vaulted cellars of St. Nicholas Hospital offer another way to explore the area. Wine tastings featuring wines from the Moselle, Saar and Ruwer are held there. The selection includes 100 wines, from quality wines to ice wine.
The wider destination also has a specific route for longer cycling trips: the Maare-Mosel Cycle Route runs 58.5 kilometres from Daun to Bernkastel-Kues along a disused railway line. A bike bus takes cyclists on the Maare-Mosel Cycle Route from Bernkastel-Kues back to the starting point; the return journey can be booked in advance. Check the current timetable when planning your ride.
