Langsur combines a clear connection to a cycle route with local architectural history and wine-growing. Its sights include the parish church and a vaulted cellar dating from the 17th century; Elbling is the most important grape variety grown here. The Sauer Cycle Route also runs through Langsur-Wasserbilligerbrück, where it connects to the Moselle Cycle Route. When looking for accommodation, it therefore makes sense to first decide what matters most to you: is the trip primarily about cycling, or would you also like to explore the town’s cultural and wine-growing heritage?

Cycling on the Sauer Cycle Route

The Sauer Cycle Route is 61.2 kilometres long and rated easy. It runs from the Sauer’s confluence near Wasserbilligerbrück/Wasserbillig to Ettelbrück, follows the river and includes crossings over bridges between the two countries. At Langsur-Wasserbilligerbrück, it connects to the Moselle Cycle Route. The length and difficulty rating provide different kinds of guidance: the rating describes the route’s stated level of difficulty, while the kilometre figure indicates the total distance.

Individual structures and sections of the route also shape the ride. Between Metzdorf and Wintersdorf, a 200-metre-long raised section protects a wetland. The 336-metre-long Ralinger Tunnel is illuminated. Along the Sauer, there are regular opportunities to cross between the German and Luxembourg sides. The route is therefore defined not only by its start and finish, but also by the river’s course, border crossings and its various sections. As maintenance work or diversions may be in place, it is advisable to check the current route conditions before setting off.

Sights and wine-growing in Langsur

The parish church and the vaulted cellar dating from the 17th century offer two different ways to explore the town’s local culture. The vaulted cellar is also used as an event venue, so it serves more than just as a historic sightseeing destination. If specific events are important to your plans, check the dates in advance.

Langsur is considered the largest wine-growing municipality in the Trier-Land municipal association; Elbling is its most important grape variety. Along with the parish church and vaulted cellar, wine-growing offers a different focus from the longer cycling route. When choosing where to stay, you can consider whether you see Langsur primarily as a starting point for a cycling tour or are interested in the town’s own history and wine-growing heritage.

Trier-Saarburg as a wider regional setting

The wider Trier-Saarburg travel destination offers additional cycling and cultural themes. The district of Trier-Saarburg already has 492 kilometres of cycle paths. The Tälchen Tour offers a different type of ride: it starts and ends in Konz, is rated as a moderate circular route, and is listed as 37.28 kilometres long, taking around 2 hours and 45 minutes. The regional overview therefore lets you compare a circular route with a stated duration against a longer route between two endpoints that is described as easy.

The wider Trier-Saarburg travel destination also has further distinct themes for culture enthusiasts. Large sections of Saarburg Castle’s surrounding walls and a residential tower have been preserved; several viewing platforms and the tower offer panoramic views of the Saar Valley. In Tawern, the Roman road settlement of Tabernae is considered to be the origin of the town. It was established shortly before the beginning of the Common Era along the Roman main road from the Moselle via Metz to Rome. The pavilion houses an authentic model of the settlement at a scale of 1:75; in the forest, there is also the large reconstructed temple complex of Tawern. The free ARGO app lets visitors view the complex on site at full size and in a 360-degree augmented reality display. These examples broaden the regional perspective without conflating Langsur’s local sights with those of other destinations.
