Granite heritage, a French Rococo park and open-air theatre in a former quarry give Haselbachtal its distinctive character. There is also a historic four-sided farmstead, a former poorhouse and activities for days by the water. You can tailor your stay to the experiences that interest you most: industrial heritage, walks, theatre or swimming.

Granite heritage and a changing landscape

The granite industry exhibition site and museum showcase machinery from the first half of the 20th century and trace 200 years of granite industry. A 1,100-metre educational trail around the Kesselbruch quarry adds an outdoor element to the exhibition. The machinery, industrial history and trail illustrate different aspects of granite quarrying.

The quarries at Häslich also tell the story of working with granite: at the height of local quarrying and processing, up to 800 people were employed there. Some former quarries later filled with water and developed into biotopes or small swimming lakes. The transformation from a quarrying area to a water-shaped landscape offers a distinct contrast to the history of machinery and work.

Bischheim Park: Rococo, trees and water

Bischheim Park was created in the second half of the 18th century in the French Rococo style. Covering around 5.6 hectares, including 1.4 hectares of ponds, it has room for a leisurely stroll. Around 1,000 trees shape the park, many of them more than 200 years old. The scale of the tree population and the age of many of its trees give a visit a different focus from the area’s industrial history.

The freshly gravelled footpaths are suitable for walking. Boat trips are offered from the rowing boat landing on set days. If you are planning a trip, check in advance which days it is available. There is also a car park for visitors.

Farmstead history and open-air theatre

The Häslich four-sided farmstead was in operation until 1973 and has been a listed monument since 1983. Guided tours for groups, available by prior arrangement, focus on agricultural tools and machinery. A light snack can also be arranged by agreement. If you would like to include both a visit and a snack in your plans, make the arrangements in advance.

Reichenau Local History House was originally a poorhouse built in 1845. Today it offers pilgrims on the Way of St James simple accommodation. If you plan to stay there, check accommodation availability in advance.

Reichenau Open-Air Theatre is an open-air venue with 650 seats in a former quarry. Open-air performances are staged there from May to September; check the dates before your visit. Naturbühne Reichenau-Pulsnitztal e.V. was founded in 1992 by local theatre professionals and residents. With around 6,000 to 9,000 visitors each year, the venue is an established part of the regional cultural scene.

The designated car park on Gräfenhainer Straße is behind the bridge, around 300 metres from the theatre. Check the latest parking information when planning your visit. This helps you plan your trip to the theatre while still enjoying the distinctive setting and open-air programme.

Swimming at Wiesengrund

The municipal Wiesengrund outdoor swimming pool in Haselbachtal has separate swimming and non-swimming areas, a paddling pool and a water slide. Volleyball facilities and sunbathing lawns are also available. Camping with Finnish huts adds to the facilities. Alongside walks in the park, industrial heritage and theatre, it’s another option for days focused on swimming and activity.
