Mücka is especially appealing to travellers who want to plan their stay around trails and landscapes. In Mücka Heath, a hiking route runs between Förstgen-Ost and Mücka through ponds, forest and heathland. The area is designated as a nature reserve. Water, woodland and open heathland shape the character of this route.

On foot and by bike

The Kreba-Neudorf Nature Trail offers another specific route option: Along its total length of 14 kilometres, there are hiking loops of three or six kilometres, as well as a five-kilometre cycling loop. The latter connects with the Sea Eagle Circular Route, Neißeland and the Heathland Villages Tours. You can first decide whether a shorter or longer hiking loop, or a separate cycling route, better suits your plans for the day.

Mücka is also a rail access point for the approximately 88-kilometre Sea Eagle Circular Route: You can join the route at Mücka station using the RB64. Check the RB64 timetable before travelling to make sure the rail connection fits your plans. In the nature reserve, it is advisable to follow local visitor rules; current trail signs and conditions may also be important when planning your specific route.

A hike with cultural stops

Culture is also part of the Mücka Heath hike: Its places to visit include the local history museum in Mücka and Forsthaus Mücka. The Forsthaus was formerly an administrative office for the biosphere reserve. So a hike can include two specific places with local significance alongside the different landscapes. If you plan to visit the museum or the Forsthaus, check their visitor information in advance.

Rail access to the Sea Eagle Circular Route is another specific factor if the RB64 is relevant to your journey.

A different focus in the wider destination of Görlitz

In the wider destination of Görlitz, historic urban architecture takes centre stage. The Old Town contains around 4,000 architectural monuments and is considered one of the best-preserved historic ensembles in Central Europe. Untermarkt is regarded as the historic heart of Görlitz and is surrounded by townhouses from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Schönhof was rebuilt in the Renaissance style after a city fire in 1526; today, it is the main building of the Silesian Museum in Görlitz and is considered one of the oldest Renaissance buildings north of the Alps.

The wildlife offers a different focus there, too: The vivarium at the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History Görlitz presents around 70 animal species in twelve elaborately designed landscape tanks covering 100 m². A live feeding demonstration takes place in the live animal area on the first Thursday of every month at 4 p.m. Admission to the feeding demonstration is included in the museum ticket. Check the current calendar before your visit.
