In Haselund, cycling, moorland and an outdoor pool come together in a village shaped by agriculture. This offers different starting points for planning your trip: you can make a cycling tour the focus or spend time at the outdoor pool in summer. The area’s agriculture and the history of the moor also bring the village’s character to life.

Cycling through moorland

The cycling route follows SchulstraĂźe and Brooker StraĂźe, then crosses the B 200 federal highway towards Haselundfeld. It passes through Kollunder Moor and the Brook moorland area; it also leads towards Kollundfeld through attractive countryside. The route includes a stop at a biotope. Check the current signage and road conditions before setting off.

Kollunder Moor is known beyond the boundaries of Haselund. It also tells the story of an earlier use of the landscape: peat was extracted there as fuel, especially in the post-war period. Haselund’s agricultural land is used as pasture, and forage maize is also grown. These uses offer a different way to experience the landscape than the cycling route does: they show how the moor and agriculture help shape the local character.

Outdoor pool and practical information

Haselund outdoor pool is near the primary school. Its large pool has space for lap swimmers; there are also four diving blocks and a separate baby pool. In summer, the pool is a place to meet, exercise and relax, and is ideal for a laid-back family outing. As it is a seasonal facility, check the current opening hours before visiting.

Haselund is right on the B 200 federal highway between Husum and Flensburg. Haselund-Brook Wendeplatz stop is one public transport option; if you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable. The MarktTreff offers some practical guidance for everyday essentials: the Spingel grocery store was expanded into a MarktTreff that provides basic supplies. These different travel interests may influence your choice of accommodation: the cycling route, the outdoor pool or further exploration of North Frisia.

The wider North Frisia region

North Frisia offers a different perspective on the landscape: the district has 441 kilometres of coastline. The five North Frisian islands in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park include Sylt, Föhr and Amrum, among others. North Frisia also includes ten Halligen, distinctive marsh islands within the national park. The North Frisian Wadden Sea is an official nature reserve and is part of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park.

The region’s nature and cultural attractions offer even more options. The Schlüttsiel Information Centre has a natural history exhibition and offers guided tours of the Wadden Sea and nature conservation almost every day; when the weather is suitable, a tour along the sea dike follows. A rich variety of birdlife can be observed at Hauke-Haien-Koog. The 50-hectare Hallig Südfall has a largely natural landscape and lies in Zone 1 of the national park. It may only be visited as part of a guided tour: on foot with a guided walk or with the Wadden Sea carriage operators.

There are other clearly defined options for cycling trips in North Frisia: the Beltringharder Route is 27 kilometres long and starts in Lüttmoorsiel. The Stollberg-Koog Tour covers 35 kilometres and starts in Reußenköge at the Amsinck-Haus.
