Gechingen combines local history with experiences in nature: the local history museum is housed in the former Appeleshof farmhouse, while the Nature Experience Area follows a trail through Röserwald forest. Together with the varied hiking routes around the town, they offer a range of themes to consider when planning your trip—from a look at traditional crafts to shared experiences in nature.

Between Calw and Böblingen/Sindelfingen

Gechingen lies roughly halfway between Calw and Böblingen/Sindelfingen. The gently rolling Schlehen- and Heckengäu countryside stretches around the town, with a variety of hiking routes. This makes the landscape a focus in its own right for days when you want to explore on foot. When planning your trip, you can give different weight to hiking, local history and experiences in nature, rather than centering your stay on just one theme.

Crafts and History at the Appeleshof

The local history museum at the Appeleshof offers insight into Gechingen’s history. The museum includes workshops representing traditional trades: a smithy, carpentry workshop, wheelwright’s workshop, saddlery, shoemaker’s workshop, bookbinding workshop and tailor’s workshop. This variety makes craftsmanship an important part of the museum’s focus. A special feature is the original photography studio dating from 1904.

Earlier periods are also connected with the area. Several burial mounds from the Celtic period are associated with the area around Gechingen. The oldest securely attributed archaeological finds linked to Gechingen date from the Bronze Age. Together, these connections give the town’s history a longer timespan, while the Appeleshof and its workshops offer concrete insights into history and traditional trades.

Nature Experiences in Röserwald Forest

The Nature Experience Area follows a trail through Röserwald forest. It is intended to offer shared experiences in nature for families, kindergartens, schools and the general public. It also includes a geocache; check that it is available before setting out. This gives you a specific activity to go with the nature theme, while the hiking routes in the Schlehen- and Heckengäu provide a separate focus for exploring on foot.

When choosing accommodation, you can start by considering which themes you want to shape your stay: Gechingen’s history, hikes in the surrounding area, or shared experiences in nature. This is a practical starting point for your search and helps you plan your trip around your interests.
