Haiterbach lies on the edge of the Black Forest and is also part of the Heckengäu and Schlehengäu regions. This narrow landscape zone lies between the eastern Northern Black Forest and the Gäu. The town in the district of Calw is situated at an elevation of about 506 metres. Haiterbach therefore brings together the edge of the Black Forest and the landscapes of the Heckengäu and Schlehengäu. Signposted hiking trails, a nature discovery trail and historic sites offer concrete starting points for a trip.

Hiking Trails and Nature Discovery Trail

Haiterbach has signposted hiking trails; the Cuckoo Trail (Kuckucksweg) loops around the entire town. The circular route is about 20 kilometres long and is divided into two equal-length stages. This layout makes it easy to include the entire route or individual stages in your travel plans.

A shorter route is the nature discovery trail in the Tann area: it is 3.6 kilometres long, with an elevation difference of 70 metres. The trail includes opportunities to engage the senses in nature, and information about geology is available at the quarry. The forest and its animals are explained in a child-friendly way. The nature discovery trail starts and ends at a car park right beside the road to Beihingen. The two trails therefore differ in length, layout and themes.

Other Leisure Spots

There is an indoor swimming pool and a small sports field at the Burgschule. A glider airfield lies between Haiterbach and Gündringen, and Haiterbach also has a picnic area with a shelter. These places complement the hiking trails with other options to consider when planning a stay.

Local History and Heritage Museum

Haiterbach was first mentioned in a document in 1099. The medieval town wall, with its three gates, probably dates from the final decades of the 13th century. Haiterbach was granted town rights in 1349. In 1363, the Counts of Hohenberg sold the town to the County of Württemberg. These milestones span the period from the first documented mention, through its rise to town status, to a later change of rule.

The heritage museum opened in Beihingen in 2000. It holds activity days on the first Sunday of each month from April to October. If you plan to attend one, check the dates for your intended year of travel. Visits to the heritage museum can also be arranged by appointment with the association’s board. You can therefore plan your museum visit for an activity day or arrange it with the board.

Getting There and Choosing Accommodation

The nearest train stations are in Nagold and Horb am Neckar, about 10 kilometres away. The nearest S-Bahn station for Stuttgart is in Herrenberg, about 23 kilometres away. If you are looking for accommodation in Haiterbach, you can factor these approximate distances into your plans alongside the nature and cultural attractions. Which aspects matter most for your stay will depend on whether you want to focus primarily on the hiking trails, the heritage museum or travelling by train.
