Mainstockheim: Wine Landscape and Local History
Accommodation in Mainstockheim
The plain along the Main River and the vineyards of the “Mainstockheimer Hofstück” wine-growing site shape Mainstockheim’s landscape. There are also paths through the wine village, historic buildings and a connection to the river that is also evident when cycling. This gives you different ways to plan your trip: explore the town’s history, spend time outdoors or include its wine-making tradition.
Vineyards and autumn traditions
Two designated circular hiking trails run through Mainstockheim and its vineyards. Guided tours are available on request; Laura Voit, a former wine princess, leads groups around the village by prior arrangement. After a tour, you can arrange to sample wines from the Mainstockheimer HofstĂĽck with a local winemaker. The tour and tasting are subject to different conditions: group tours with Laura Voit are available on request, while the wine tasting must be arranged with a winemaker.
Autumn is also part of local wine life: hosts in Mainstockheim invite guests to relaxed Bremser evenings. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these evenings, ask local winemakers for current dates. This lets you make the season part of your plans without assuming a specific date.
Church, synagogue and Ebracher Hof
The first historical reference to the Protestant St. James’s Church dates to May 22, 1451. Since spring 2013, there has been a small Bible garden within its surrounding wall. The church and garden thus connect two very different periods: the medieval reference to the church and a much more recent addition to its grounds.
The former synagogue was built in 1836 for the Jewish community in the Neoclassical style. Today, the building serves as a Catholic place of worship; check locally in advance for its current use. The former Ebrach monastery courtyard also tells a story of earlier architecture: it was built between 1621 and 1623 in the richly ornamented Renaissance style. The garden at Ebracher Hof was added later. It was laid out between 1727 and 1734 on several levels and covers more than 4,600 square meters. Another surviving detail can be found on Gumbertusgasse: an old bell turret remains on a residential building there.
Bike trail, ferry and railway
The Main Cycle Route passes through Mainstockheim and its surrounding area, following the river. The Chris-Tina ferry connects Mainstockheim and Albertshofen. If the ferry is important to your plans, check the latest operating details before setting out. This lets you consider the cycle route as a separate part of your trip, while the ferry provides a connection between the two villages; no particular operating hours are implied.
Mainstockheim is also located directly on the Nuremberg–Frankfurt railway line. These different transport connections can help you when choosing accommodation: the cycle route follows the river, the ferry connects two villages, and the railway line is another point of reference for planning your trip.
A separate look at Kitzingen
The wider travel destination of Kitzingen has its own historical and cultural highlights. The Falterturm was built there between 1469 and 1496 as a watchtower on the outer town wall. The Old Main Bridge has medieval origins and was first mentioned in a document in 1300. The town hall on the market square is another historic landmark: Hans Eckart von Schaffhausen built it in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. These buildings belong to Kitzingen, not Mainstockheim.
If you are looking for an interactive activity alongside architectural history, Kitzingen is also home to the German Carnival Museum. Its spacious exhibition rooms and hands-on stations invite visitors to explore Fasching, Fastnacht and Karneval in a playful way. This makes it possible to distinguish Mainstockheim’s mix of wine landscape, local history and connection to the river from the distinct attractions of the wider travel destination.
