Discover Schneeberg
Accommodation in Schneeberg
Schneeberg combines a valley basin enclosed by hills with historic cellars, the Lenze farmstead and a well-developed network of hiking trails. Wine and fruit growing, crafts and pilgrimage give the town’s history several facets. When planning your trip, you can weigh up exploring the landscape against cultural discoveries—or put both at the heart of your visit. Schneeberg is a starting point for hikes; its cellars and press house also stand as reminders of local history.
Between cellar culture and local history
At the Lenze farmstead, a vaulted cellar built in 1568 sits alongside a modern, sustainably built press-house barn and an exhibition of local crafts. The press house is a rare surviving testament to the historic cultivation of wine and fruit, as well as to the agricultural and craft traditions that once shaped Schneeberg. The ensemble brings historic architecture and modern design together; wine, fruit and crafts offer different perspectives on the town’s history.
The cellar serves as an event space for cellar tours and Moscht tastings. After a tour of Schneeberg’s cellars, you can enjoy an apple wine tasting with apple wine experts and savoury bites made from regional specialities. These tastings are available by appointment. If you would like to include one in your plans, arrange a date in advance.
The historic sandstone vaulted cellars also evoke another era: one of them dates back to 1551. However, Schneeberg’s history is not told by its buildings alone. For centuries, believers made pilgrimages to Schneeberg to visit the “Mother of God on the Holderstock.” The cellars associated with wine and fruit growing thus stand alongside a long religious tradition.
Hiking in the valley basin
Schneeberg lies in a valley basin nestled among hills. A well-developed network of hiking trails makes it easy to explore the surrounding landscape. This also makes Schneeberg a starting point for hikes. When planning your day, you can focus on trails through the countryside or set aside time for the town’s historic sites. When choosing accommodation, consider which of these interests matters more to you—or whether you would like to alternate between the two.
Miltenberg as a wider regional setting
The district in the wider destination of Miltenberg lies between the Odenwald and Spessart hills and features deep river and stream valleys. Regional wine culture also extends beyond individual towns: visitors in the Miltenberg district can visit Häckerwirtschaften (seasonal wine taverns) and wine festivals, and enjoy locally produced wine. Dates vary from one event to another, so it is worth checking the specific dates.
Every year from mid-September, the Miltenberg district’s Culture Weeks feature a wide range of events for all ages. The programme includes concerts of classical and contemporary music, as well as jazz and electronic music events. Looking beyond Schneeberg to Miltenberg adds further cultural offerings in the wider destination to the town’s own attractions.
