Peißenberg offers different ways to explore history and enjoy physical activity. The mining museum focuses on Upper Bavarian coal, while the pump track, disc golf and hiking trails offer other highlights. If you are looking for accommodation, deciding what matters most can help you narrow down your options: Would you like mining history to shape your stay, plan to make time for active pursuits, or are you interested in cultural events? The sites and routes provide practical points of reference for planning your trip.

Mining history at the museum and along the trail

The Peißenberg Mining Museum brings the history of Upper Bavarian coal to life in 14 rooms, from its formation to the last shift underground. With a museum guide, you can also travel through part of the former deep mine adit and gain insight into the miners’ working lives. This offers different perspectives on the history of the resource and the work carried out underground.

Another way to discover traces of mining is the Mining Trail, marked as route 76. It starts at the car park at the Mining Museum (Tiefstollen), is about 10 kilometres long and takes around three hours. Along the way, concrete foundations of the former cableway used to transport coal from Hohenpeißenberg to Peißenberg are still visible. The trail thus complements a museum visit with tangible remnants of the coal’s former transport route.

Active pursuits and culture in Peißenberg

At the Old Spoil Heap, BMX riders, mountain bikers, skateboarders and scooter riders can use the pump track. The New Spoil Heap is home to a disc golf course, which is also suitable for beginners and people of all ages. The activities offer different kinds of exercise: one is a ride on the pump track, the other a game of disc golf. You can choose based on the type of activity you would like to include in your day.

There is also an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails through mixed forests around Peißenberg and on the Hohen Peißenberg. For events, the Tiefstollenhalle offers a varied programme of cabaret, concerts, singing and theatre, as well as slide lectures, flea markets and exhibitions. The Rigi Rutsch’n leisure pool, with its sauna area, is another leisure option in Peißenberg. The sauna area covers around 1,500 square metres and has five saunas at different temperatures.
