Castle history, religious art and trails through varied landscapes define Rimpar. Grumbach Castle, the European Cultural Trail and the Kobel Trail offer different ways to discover the town: through its history, a route with a named destination, or its landscapes and wine hiking trail. Which of these aspects interests you most can also help you plan your stay.

Castle History and Art in Rimpar

Grumbach Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1469. On 25 June 2000, the Castle Museum opened in the castle, with its Archaeological Museum and Bakery Museum departments. The castle’s early documentary mention and the museum’s later opening are thus distinct historical points of reference.

The Church of St. Peter and Paul adds another cultural highlight: it is home to Tilman Riemenschneider’s first stone sculpture. The sculpture offers a different perspective from the subjects covered by the two museum departments. Those interested in Rimpar’s culture can thus distinguish between castle history, archaeology, the Bakery Museum and sculpture.

Trails Through Culture and Landscape

The European Cultural Trail “Gramschatzer Wald 1: Rimpar and Maidbronn” starts at Rimpar’s market square. Its southern loop leads to Maidbronn and is about 9 km long. This provides a specific starting point, a destination and an approximate distance—useful guidance when you want to factor a route into your travel plans in advance.

The “Kobelweg Rimpar” offers a different perspective on the landscape. It invites you to enjoy the varied scenery of fruit trees, vines, hedges and meadows. At Kobersberg in Rimpar, the “Kobel”, inaugurated in 2016, is connected to a wine hiking trail. The landscape and wine hiking trail give this offering its own character alongside the Cultural Trail.

The Two-Brooks Tour also passes through Rimpar. It runs from Estenfeld to KĂĽrnach on a combined hiking and cycling trail. The descriptions highlight the differences between the routes: the southern loop has a named destination and approximate length, while the Two-Brooks Tour focuses on the connection between the towns and its suitability for both hiking and cycling. When planning, you can consider whether an approximate distance or the route type and destinations provide more useful guidance.

More Culture in the Wider WĂĽrzburg Destination

The wider WĂĽrzburg destination also has cultural highlights in other places. In Ochsenfurt, a nearly complete fortification with numerous town gates and towers surrounds the historic old town. The New Town Hall there dates from the 15th century; its LanzentĂĽrmchen houses a unique clock showing figures and the phases of the moon.

Röttingen offers a different highlight: its sundial trail is around 2 kilometres long and passes 25 different sundials within and around the town walls. The wider Würzburg destination thus brings together different ways to discover culture—from Ochsenfurt’s town fortifications and town hall clock to Röttingen’s sundial trail.
