Discover Eriskirch
Accommodation in Eriskirch
Eriskirch combines a distinctive reed landscape with sights around Lake Constance and striking architectural and artistic works. In June, the iris blossoms turn the meadows of the Eriskircher Ried blue. The Lake Constance Cycle Path also runs along the edge of the reed bed, and there are opportunities to swim in Lake Constance.
Reed landscapes and seasonal colours
The blue iris blossoms give the Eriskircher Ried a distinct seasonal accent in June. The area also encompasses a variety of habitats: wet meadows, the Schussen River and its old channels, floodplain forests and the shallow-water zone of Lake Constance. They provide habitats for many animals and plants. Nature enthusiasts will therefore find not only a distinctive floral display here, but also a diverse landscape to explore.
Church, art and activities
The parish church of the Assumption of Mary is a landmark of Eriskirch. Its pointed tower is 61 metres high. The six Water Guardians, arranged in a parabola just before the Schussen flows into Lake Constance at Eriskirch, offer a different artistic style. Their names refer to virtues, intellect and love.
Cycling and water can also be highlights of a visit. The Lake Constance Cycle Path runs along the edge of the Eriskircher Ried, beside the railway line between Friedrichshafen and Langenargen. You can swim in Lake Constance; Eriskirch lido also has a beach volleyball court. If you plan to visit the lido, please check its seasonal opening dates before you go.
The wider Bodenseekreis travel region
Beyond the town, the Bodenseekreis offers its own regional setting. It stretches along almost the entire northern shore of Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg and extends into the Upper Swabian Hill Country and, to the east, the West Allgäu Hill Country. The Bodenseekreis has 57.7 kilometres of Lake Constance shoreline. Its landscape is shaped by the lake and the adjoining hills, with orchards, vineyards, meadows and forests. Within the Bodenseekreis, the Eriskircher Ried is considered the largest and most valuable nature reserve on the German shore of Upper Lake Constance; it offers opportunities to experience local nature.
The Eriskirch Nature Conservation Centre offers natural history tours and talks throughout the year, as well as special activities for children. For a different theme, visit the Unteruhldingen Pile Dwellings, Germany's oldest archaeological open-air museum. The visitor route includes the ARCHAEORAMA multimedia show, featuring a virtual dive to the pile dwellings in Lake Constance. The site also includes the DISCOVERY TRAIL. At its pile-dwelling cinema, experimental archaeologists introduce visitors to historical building techniques.
Other regional attractions offer their own highlights. The Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen displays nearly 400 exhibits across 6,000 square metres, including 14 original aircraft and a helicopter. At Bodensee-Therme Überlingen, thermal bathing and sauna infusions are complemented by a private bathing beach and panoramic views of Lake Constance and the Alps. Its thermal water comes from a depth of more than 1,006 metres and flows into all the warm-water pools. When planning your trip to the wider Bodenseekreis region, you can choose to focus on nature, the history of technology or thermal bathing.
