Igersheim between the Tauber, hiking trails and history
Accommodation in Igersheim
Igersheim combines its location on the Tauber with hiking trails, nature reserves and historic sites. The town center lies between four slopes along the river. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose different focuses: nature and outdoor activities, or discoveries about the town’s history.
Nature and trails in Igersheim
Igersheim is home to the Altenberg, Neuhaus and Lindach nature reserves. They are associated with rare plants and animals and add a distinctive dimension to experiencing nature.
There are ten numbered circular hiking trails and three themed trails for hiking. The Panoramaweg Taubertal and the Jakobsweg Taubertal also pass through Igersheim. You can choose from circular walks, themed trails and two routes that pass through Igersheim.
You can climb to Neuhaus Castle via the staircase path or hiking route IGH-50; both offer views over the central Tauber Valley. The Tour de Igersheim provides another specific route detail: it is approximately 34 kilometers long. There is also a boat rental service on the Tauber. Check its current availability before making it a firm part of your plans.
Neuhaus Castle: Ruins and views
The publicly accessible ruins and archaeological sites of Neuhaus Castle are open to visitors. Historical guided tours and individual visits are also available. The site combines visible remains and archaeological sites with the opportunity to make the castle’s history the focus of a visit.
The climb via the staircase path or IGH-50 adds views over the central Tauber Valley to this historical focus. For specific plans, it is worth checking current trail conditions as well as visiting and tour arrangements.
Museums and local history
The permanent exhibition at the Igersheim Local History Museum includes an original shoemaker’s workshop, a kitchen, and living and sleeping areas from earlier generations. The exhibits offer different ways to explore craftsmanship and everyday life, from the workplace to the rooms where people lived. The museum is on the third floor of the Kulturhaus and can be reached by elevator. If this access is important for your plans, check the latest information before you travel.
The Neuses forge museum also preserves a piece of local craft history. The historic blacksmith’s workshop was established in 1830; visits are possible by prior arrangement. This means that planning a visit differs from visiting the publicly accessible castle grounds: you should arrange your visit to the forge in advance.
Möhlerplatz is an important center of Igersheim and includes the old and new town halls. Together with the museums, it offers another perspective on local history—this time through the historic buildings in the center rather than exhibits and workshop traditions.
Getting around and finding the right accommodation
Igersheim is well connected to public transport within the Liebliches Taubertal holiday region. Connections and timetables may change, so check the latest information when planning your arrival or travel around the region.
