Urbach combines trails through orchards and woodland with insights into its landscape and history. A distinctive landmark is the Urbach landslide: the event of 2001 has become a symbol of the town. The landslide circular trail is around three kilometres long and leads through orchards around the landslide. Seven information boards cover the history, geology, flora and fauna of the landslide area.

Woodland Trails, Fruit Growing and Routes Through Town

The 2.2-kilometre woodland discovery trail focuses on something different. Numerous interactive stations and trail features make it possible to experience nature through movement and in a holistic way. The trail is an outing for families, schools and kindergartens. The nearby Hauwiese woodland play and barbecue area lies between the woodland discovery trail and the landslide circular trail. It offers space to relax, play and take a break; as an addition, it can turn the outing into a full-day programme.

The Linsenberg fruit-growing educational trail also combines exercise with a specific theme: it runs along Linsenberg and provides information about fruit growing, trees and shrubs, ecology and the landscape. From the trail, there are views south across the Rems Valley and towards the opposite heights of the Schurwald. If you would rather explore the town itself on foot, you can follow the nearly four-kilometre walk through Urbach, which passes through almost the entire town. The routes differ not only in length, but also in whether woodland, orchards, fruit growing or the town itself is the main focus along the way.

Ride the Flow Trail by Mountain Bike

The Flow Trail is part of a roughly 14-kilometre loop in Urbach and comprises two sections. It is free to use. A suitable mountain bike, a helmet and sufficient riding skills are required. In wet weather, the trail should not be ridden to prevent damage. Check the current conditions before setting out and take the requirements into account when planning your ride.

Local History in Exhibitions and Market Events

The permanent exhibition on the second floor of the Urbach Mediathek tells the story of Urbach from the Ice Age through the Middle Ages to the present day. The Museum am Widumhof offers another perspective; it is housed in one of Urbach’s oldest half-timbered houses. In addition to the museum rooms on the upper floors, there is an exhibition room on the ground floor for changing topics and a renovated museum cellar in the vaulted basement. If you are planning a visit to an exhibition, check the current visitor regulations in advance.

The weekly market is held at the marketplace in the centre of Urbach. It takes place once a week, usually on Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; check the usual schedule before your visit. The Christmas market is a seasonal tradition: on the second Sunday of Advent, it runs from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the centre of Urbach, at the marketplace and around the roundabout. The exact calendar date depends on the Advent schedule.

Hiking Option in the Wider Rems-Murr District Destination

For those looking beyond Urbach for a longer hike, the wider Rems-Murr District destination offers the 50-kilometre Rems-Murr hiking trail. It can be hiked in three stages, from Endersbach via Winnenden to Murrhardt. The entire route is well connected by local public transport, so no car is needed to get there. Route navigation can be downloaded to a smartphone. This longer-distance route is a separate way to explore the Rems-Murr District destination on foot.
