Stuttgart combines distinctive architecture and diverse collections with parks, viewpoints, and lively traditions. Depending on whether you want to focus on art, outdoor activities, or regional cuisine, you’ll find different ideas for your trip. Seasonal events are also part of the city’s character.

City Centre, Museums and Architecture

Schlossplatz is a green oasis in the heart of Stuttgart, right beside Königstraße, the main shopping street. Here, green space meets a central shopping street. The square is a clear urban landmark to help you plan your visit.

The museums offer a range of different perspectives. The Mercedes-Benz Museum displays 160 vehicles and more than 1,500 exhibits in total. The Porsche Museum features more than 80 vehicles and numerous smaller exhibits. Visitors can watch specialists repairing historic vehicles through a glass partition. The collections thus offer different perspectives on automobiles: from a wide range of exhibits to a close-up view of traditional craftsmanship on historic vehicles.

At the Staatsgalerie, you can explore 800 years of art history, from Old Swabian art to international works. Its masterpieces span from the 14th century to the present day. You can discover architectural history at the Weissenhof Estate: the Le Corbusier House has been a museum there since 2006. The semi-detached house by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016.

Stuttgart TV Tower is another striking example of architecture: it was the world’s first television tower built of reinforced concrete. In good weather, the view from the observation deck reaches as far as the Swabian Jura. This makes it a viewpoint worth keeping in mind for a clear day.

Parks, Views and Outdoor Activities

The Wilhelma is Germany’s only institution of its kind, combining a zoo and botanical garden. It is home to around 11,000 animals from almost 1,200 species. The grounds also include a 19th-century park, which is protected as a registered cultural monument. Rosenstein Park and the Wilhelma represent different sides of Stuttgart’s green spaces: at Rosenstein Park, you can stroll among native and exotic trees across 100 hectares, while the Wilhelma brings together animal and plant life.

Around 600 hectares of Stuttgart’s green spaces comprise beautifully designed and ecologically maintained parks and gardens. The viewing terrace at Weißenburg Park offers a view across the city centre and one of the finest panoramas of Stuttgart. If you’d rather be on the move, there are several options: the Blaustrümpflerweg is a 7.5-kilometre circular trail within Stuttgart’s city limits. Visitors can ride pedal boats on Max-Eyth-See. Near Bärenschlössle in western Stuttgart, paths and trails invite you to walk, cycle, and jog. Viewpoints, a circular trail, and activities on the water or along the paths each offer their own way to enjoy the outdoors.

Wine and Annual Festivals

At the Stuttgart Wine Village, you can sample wines from Baden-Württemberg alongside traditional Swabian dishes. Regional food and wine are part of the Wine Village’s Hocketse tradition. The festival has been held every year since 1974, from late August to early September. Another recurring event is the Stuttgart Spring Festival, held annually between mid-April and early May. The two festivals give you different seasonal dates to plan around: one at the turn of April to May, the other from late August to early September.

When looking for accommodation in Stuttgart, you can start by considering which aspect you want to shape your stay: museums and architecture, green spaces and views, outdoor activities, or seasonal wine. Schlossplatz offers a central urban landmark; the other experiences mentioned give you different themes to guide your search for a place to stay. This way, you can start with the kind of trip you want, rather than trying to fit every activity into a single itinerary.
