Discover Neuötting
Accommodation in Neuötting
Neuötting can be discovered in two ways: by admiring the long town square and its façades, or by cycling along the Seven Churches Cycle Route. Cultural events, centuries-old market and festival traditions, and the town museum offer further topics to explore during your visit. You can tailor your stay to focus on local history, events or outdoor activities.
Town Square, Churches and Culture
Neuötting’s town square is Ludwigstraße and is around 500 metres long. The once-grand and proud merchant houses still impress with their magnificent façades. The town’s landmark, St. Nicholas Parish Church, defines Neuötting’s skyline: it stands on a ridge and is visible from afar.
Markets and festivals in Neuötting also have a centuries-old tradition. Its cultural events include the International Guitar Days, the Arkadenhof concerts and the Folk Music Days. Every year, international stars come to Neuötting for the International Guitar Days. If you’d like to include a concert or festival in your travel plans, check the dates in advance.
Town Museum and Shopping
The Neuötting Town Museum brings the history of shipping on the Inn and the short history of the local railway to life. Its exhibition on the 1797 town fire also features an original 18th-century fire engine. Neuötting has numerous specialist shops for a shopping trip; the selection may change over time.
Discover Neuötting by Bike
The Seven Churches Cycle Route has no major climbs, follows side roads and is paved almost all the way. The Neuötting section passes the Church of the Holy Spirit, St. Nicholas Parish Church and St. John the Baptist Church in St. Johann. Seven information boards along the route provide details, and the route is signposted.
You can combine the Seven Churches Cycle Route with the Inn Cycle Path to make a circular tour; between Neuötting and Marktl, it offers an alternative to the Inn Cycle Path. Check the current route and signposting before setting off, as maintenance work may lead to changes.
In the wider destination of Altötting
The wider destination of Altötting adds sweeping landscape views to the town experience. The Altötting district lies along the Inn and Salzach rivers; a plain around ten kilometres wide, through which the Inn flows, is bordered to the north and south by lush green hills. The Dachlwand nature reserve is located on the Inn, northwest of Marktl. It covers parts of the municipalities of Marktl, Erlbach and Perach, spans around 206 hectares and was converted from a landscape conservation area to a nature reserve in 1986.
The wetland and nature reserve “Lower Inn between Haiming and Neuhaus” provides a habitat for migrating, overwintering and breeding marsh and water birds; more than 25 bird species dependent on aquatic and wetland habitats breed there. The nature trail in Altöttinger Gries is another way to experience nature: it has ten interactive stations along the stream, and the circular route is around 1.4 kilometres long. Peracher Badesee is one of the bathing lakes listed in the Altötting district; check the facilities and conditions before your visit.
