Discover Arnstein: Roses, Old Town and Natural Swimming Lake
Accommodation in Arnstein
Arnstein combines a distinctive historic townscape with garden culture, cultural venues and a natural swimming lake. The terraced Old Town, rose garden and town church give the town a variety of cultural highlights; the lake adds a place to relax by the water.
Old Town, Roses and Architectural History
The Old Town climbs in terraces, and narrow lanes continue to shape the appearance of this historic administrative town. The layout of the lanes and the stepped elevations also influence the feel of a stroll through Arnstein. The town’s character is therefore shaped by more than a single building: its historic townscape is also reflected in its terraced layout.
Around 100 historic roses in approximately 70 varieties grow across roughly 200 square metres in the Arnstein Rose Garden. The combination of garden space, number of roses and variety of cultivars makes the rose garden a destination in its own right. Visitors interested in plants will find a different perspective on Arnstein here than when exploring the architecture of the Old Town.
Arnstein Town Church was built from 1722 to 1731; its Neoclassical interior dates from the late 18th century. The construction and interior design thus belong to different periods. Visitors interested in architecture can use these two dates to distinguish the church’s construction from its later Neoclassical design.
Cultural Venue with Tours by Prior Arrangement
The former Arnstein Synagogue has been restored and converted into a meeting centre for cultural events, lectures, concerts and exhibitions. The venue thus connects its former religious function with a cultural setting for a range of events.
Guided tours for groups, including children, are available by prior arrangement. If you would like to visit as part of a guided tour, please arrange your visit in advance.
Natural Swimming Lake and Cycle Route
Arnstein’s natural swimming lake has a water surface of about one hectare, a regeneration area and a sunbathing lawn. It also features a natural playground with a mud-play area, a water raft and a beach volleyball court. The water and sunbathing lawn are complemented by play and sports facilities; the lake offers a different focus from the town’s cultural venues.
The Wern Cycle Route also passes through Arnstein, running from Rottershausen to Wernfeld. This route information offers a different planning reference from individual sights, placing Arnstein on a route between two named places.
Main-Spessart as a Wider Travel Destination
Main-Spessart also offers its own landscape and hiking experiences as a wider travel destination. Vineyards, water and forests characterise the region’s landscape. In Spessart Nature Park, hiking options range from short walks to multi-day hikes. The Main Hiking Trail is about 500 kilometres long; just under 100 kilometres of it run through the district of Main-Spessart, linking Karlstadt, Gemünden a.Main, Lohr a.Main, Rothenfels and Marktheidenfeld. So alongside Arnstein’s local attractions, Main-Spessart offers wider landscape and hiking options to choose from.
