Hallbergmoos features an extensive sports and recreation park, restored areas along the Isar floodplains and a history trail covering events from Hallbergmoos and Goldach. Local highlights range from outdoor exercise to nature observation and local history.

BĂĽrgerpark and Outdoor Activities

Hallbergmoos Sports and Recreation Park covers 16 hectares. A 1.7-kilometre Finnish track runs around the BĂĽrgerpark. A public playground is located in the southeastern part of the park, near the beach volleyball courts. It can be reached on foot or by bicycle from the eastern entrance on Enghofer Weg.

The sports and recreation park also has a boules court. Players of all ages can use it for outdoor exercise. Together with the playground, beach volleyball courts and Finnish track, it offers a variety of ways to spend time outdoors. For families, the playground’s location provides a clear reference point: it is in the Bürgerpark, near the beach volleyball courts.

Nature at the Hallbergmoos Gravel Pit

The restored areas of the Hallbergmoos gravel pit border directly on the Isar floodplains, connecting them to the Southern Isar Floodplains FFH area. The area includes hardwood and softwood floodplain forests, extensive bodies of water, restored gravel areas and large reed beds. These landscape types give nature observation a distinctive character.

The gravel pit is a popular destination for nature tours. It can be reached by S-Bahn, bicycle or motor vehicle. This makes the gravel pit a destination in its own right alongside the activities in the sports and recreation park: the focus here is on the restored areas and habitats of the Isar floodplains.

History Trail and Local History

The Hallbergmoos history trail, “Traces of Our Past,” uses 18 stops and information boards to share historical events from Hallbergmoos and Goldach. The circular cycling route is 20.43 kilometres long, is rated easy and has a stated duration of two hours. These figures provide clear guidance for planning a bike ride, while the stops connect the route to the history of the surrounding area.

Individual buildings add to this theme. The Catholic Church of St. Theresa in Hallbergmoos was consecrated in 1833. The history trail describes the Alte Wirt as the oldest building in Hallbergmoos. The route thus brings together historical events and specific descriptions of individual buildings.

More Nature and Culture in Freising

In the wider destination of Freising, the Ampertal in the district of Freising offers a nature area of its own. It is designated as a landscape conservation area and is used for hiking and cycling. The Ampertal is home to numerous animal and plant species that merit special protection, including four of the 16 dragonfly species in Bavaria that are threatened with extinction. Nature and recreation there therefore have a different focus than at the Hallbergmoos gravel pit.

Freising also offers cultural and historical attractions of its own. Freising Cathedral on the Domberg features a crypt and the Beast Column. In the historic old town, burghers’ houses and canons’ residences dating from the Gothic period to the Baroque period surround Marienplatz, where there is also a Marian column dating from 1674. The Freising City Museum presents around 350 selected objects and groups of objects relating to Freising’s history. At Schafhof, the focus is on contemporary art and year-round exhibitions featuring works by international and local artists.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests
