Röthenbach a.d.Pegnitz: Flower Festival, Town History and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz
Röthenbach a.d.Pegnitz has several things to offer: its annual Flower Festival provides a recurring event, the Conradty Workers’ Settlement tells the story of the town’s industrial past, and several described cycling routes pass through different areas. The museum and Historical Town Walk offer further ways to explore the town’s history. During your stay, you can choose between a scheduled event, culture and outdoor activities.
Flower Festival and Town Walk
Röthenbach holds its Flower Festival every year. The traditional Flower Festival parade starts at the Old Festival Ground in the Pegnitz valley, follows a circular route through Röthenbach and ends at Hubert-Munkert-Platz. A selection of the festival floats is then displayed there. For the event on 30 August 2026, the parade was scheduled to start at 2 pm. As that date has now passed, check the date and route for a future event: the route may change, and the festival programme may also vary from one year to the next.
The Historical Town Walk offers a different perspective on Röthenbach. At eleven notable locations, it traces the town’s development from a small mill settlement to an industrial town and workers’ town. You can choose your own starting and ending points, for example at the railway station, Rathausplatz or in the town centre; navigation will guide you to the next stop. Choosing your own endpoints makes it easier to fit the walk into your daily schedule.
Conradty Settlement and Town Museum
The Conradty Workers’ Settlement was built between 1892 and 1914. Significant parts have been preserved, and as a largely intact complex it is considered an important monument to industrial history. One specific example of its architecture is the Upper Conradty Settlement, with a three-storey apartment building featuring decorative half-timbering. The walk thus offers a look not only at the town’s development, but also at individual architectural styles.
The Conradtyhaus Town Museum at Mühlgasse 1 is open on Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is closed on the Christmas holidays, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. If you are planning to visit on a public holiday, check the arrangements before travelling. The museum and town walk focus on different things: the museum visit here, and the town’s development across eleven stops there.
Church and Moritzberg
St Boniface Catholic Church also has notable features: it has a Steinmeyer organ, a round-arched window by Nuremberg glass painter Alfons Abel, and a 35-metre-high tower. The Moritzberg and Surroundings Beautification Association’s observation tower has stood on Moritzberg since 1911. Beside the summit is a 15th-century chapel dedicated to Saint Mauritius.
Cycling Routes and Surrounding Countryside
The three cycling routes differ in their starting points and courses: Cycling Route I leads from Seespitzschule through the state forest to the motorway bridge and on to the district of Renzenhof. Cycling Route II runs from Röthenbach towards Schwaig, via the industrial estate, Diepersdorf and Renzenhof, then returns to Röthenbach over the motorway bridge. Cycling Route III starts in the Seespitze district, passes under the railway bridge along the state forest and reaches the motorway bridge near Himmelgarten. Conditions on all three routes may change; check the current route before setting out.
Nearby are the Pegnitz floodplains, just outside the town. They are recommended as a place to explore when visiting Röthenbach and its districts. They complement the specific routes and places described with an excursion area beyond the town.
