Hallstadt: Routes along the Main and local culture
Accommodation in Hallstadt
Hallstadt offers a range of ways to enjoy a visit: the Main Cycle Path passes through the town, while the Seven Rivers Hiking Trail runs through Hallstadt and Dörfleins on both sides of the Main. The Obermain Canoe Trail runs from Hausen to Hallstadt. This brings cycling, hiking and paddling together as different ways to explore the area—an ideal basis for tailoring your stay to your preferred activity.
Routes for active days
The Hallstadt Nature Discovery Trail is a circular route that starts at the hiking car park in Dörfleins. One of the seven stages of the Way of St. James from Kronach’s Rosenberg Fortress to Nuremberg passes through Hallstadt. St. John’s Church offers a special place to pause on a cycling tour: as a cycling-friendly church, it is specifically open to cyclists and provides a place to rest and reflect quietly along the way.
Outdoor pool and summer events
Hallstadt outdoor pool has four heated pools. It also has its own playground and a beach volleyball court. Opening times are seasonal and may vary, so check the latest hours before visiting.
Festivals and markets also shape the calendar. Hallstadt’s four church fairs take place during the summer months. Markets are held around the market square three times a year. In the district of Dörfleins, the Weiherfest is celebrated each year on the first weekend of July. The specific dates of the church fairs and markets vary. If you would like to plan your trip around a celebration or market, check the latest event dates.
Churches, art and architectural history
Kulturboden Hallstadt hosts concerts, cabaret and small-scale performing arts. Another way to explore the local culture is to visit the town’s churches: St. Anne’s Chapel was built from sandstone in the Baroque style in 1703. St. Kilian’s is a late Gothic, three-aisled hall church. The church treasury includes a silver censer dating from 1747.
Art can also be discovered in Hallstadt. The art library is located in the St. Kilian public library. Some of the artworks are also on display at the town hall; visitors can view, borrow or buy them there during regular opening hours.
In Dörfleins, the temple on Kreuzberg commemorates several chapters in the town’s Christian history. It includes a group of sculptures depicting the Crucifixion, erected in the mid-19th century, and Stations of the Cross shrines installed in 1890. The Hagelmarter is a landmark of Dörfleins and also the largest and most significant wayside shrine in the Bamberg area. It is over 5.50 metres high and over 1 metre wide.
