Discover Scheinfeld
Accommodation in Scheinfeld
In Scheinfeld, historic guided tours, Schwarzenberg Castle and seasonal baths offer different highlights. There is also a historic avenue of lime trees and the Steigerwald Way of St. James. You can plan your stay around the topics that interest you most: guided walks through the old town, architectural and religious history, or a visit to the indoor or outdoor pool.
Guided tours of the old town and castle
Since mid-2026, the town of Scheinfeld has offered professionally guided tours of its historic old town. They last around 1.5 hours and run from the Upper Gate Tower along HauptstraĂźe to the Catholic parish church. If you like following a set route through a town, this tour gives you a specific duration and route to plan around; current dates may vary.
Tours of Schwarzenberg Castle offer a different perspective: they are regularly available from Easter through October. On Sundays and public holidays, a tour of the upper castle is possible. Check the latest information before your visit, as tours may be temporarily cancelled. The seasonal period and the approximately 1.5-hour old-town tour offer different points of reference when deciding how much time to set aside for guided visits.
Routes and history around Schwarzenberg
A four-row avenue of lime trees was planted as early as the 17th century along the connecting path from the Upper Town Gate to Schwarzenberg Castle. The Steigerwald Way of St. James passes through Scheinfeld and by Schwarzenberg Monastery. This means that both the historic landscaping and a pilgrim route are local points of interest you can include in your travel plans according to your interests.
The monastery’s architectural history goes back further: Schwarzenberg Monastery Church was consecrated in 1735, based on plans by Würzburg master builder Balthasar Neumann. Pilgrimages to the miraculous image began in 1745, when it was transferred from the original wooden chapel to the altar of the Chapel of Grace. Another prominent landmark is the 46-metre-high Black Tower. It was built to mark the elevation of the House of Schwarzenberg to the hereditary rank of Imperial Prince.
Seasonal baths as another highlight
Both the indoor and outdoor pools are open to guests and visitors in Scheinfeld; both are open seasonally. The water temperature is at least 27°C year-round. If a visit to the pool is part of your plans, check its seasonal opening dates in advance. This makes it easier to fit a possible pool visit into your itinerary alongside tours and sightseeing, without assuming that the pools are open year-round.
More to explore in the wider destination
Beyond Scheinfeld, the wider destination of Neustadt A.D.Aisch-Bad Windsheim offers a regional perspective of its own. The district is nestled between the Steigerwald and Frankenhöhe nature parks and is particularly well suited to exploring on foot or by bike. Its cycling network includes themed routes for different abilities, from leisurely rides to more challenging cycling. The almost 100-kilometre-long long-distance cycle route “from the Main to the Zenn” passes through the district and connects Kitzingen with Fürth.
For culture lovers, the Franconian Open-Air Museum in Bad Windsheim offers a journey through 700 years of everyday life in Franconia. The Bauhofstadel, also located there, was built in 1441–1444; its late-medieval roof structure spans an interior of around 360 square metres without supporting columns. In the Aischgrund Carp Museum in Neustadt an der Aisch, visitors can learn more about the tradition of carp farming, which dates back over 1,250 years, in ten rooms.
The culinary highlights also have different seasons. Aischgrund mirror carp is one of the local specialities in Neustadt an der Aisch and is served from September to April, for example crispy fried or poached in stock. The Aischgrund Carp Weeks take place every year from 1 September to 1 November at selected restaurants in the district; the Wild Game Weeks follow each November and feature game prepared in a variety of ways. Before travelling, check which restaurants are currently participating and what is on the programme.
