Landscape between dunes and water

Golßen lies at the edge of the Głogów-Baruth Urstromtal, the Lower Fläming and the Lusatian Basin and Heathland. The surrounding area is ideal for hiking, walking and cycling; forests, meadows, bodies of water, quiet paths and waterways provide a variety of scenic backdrops. The Dahme flows close to Golßen. Historic fishponds fed by the river are among the distinctive features of the local landscape. Irregular and parabolic dunes lie in the Gehmlitz, north of Golßen. Further dune areas between Golßen and Lübben are suitable for walking. When planning an outing, you can explore a range of natural features: dune landscapes as well as rivers and ponds.

Architecture in the town centre

The town centre features Art Nouveau town houses dating from the fin de siècle. The town hall is a three-storey Neo-Gothic building, constructed between 1904 and 1906; its tower was restored between 1992 and 1995. The palace complex with its park was built in the 18th century and features both Baroque and Neoclassical elements. Golßen Church also tells a story of renewal: it is a Neoclassical plastered church with a pentagonal apse. The former church was demolished in 1810, and the present one was consecrated in 1820. These buildings showcase a range of architectural styles and periods, from the Neo-Gothic town hall to the Neoclassical church.

On foot or by bike

Cyclists can choose from the Gurkenradweg, the Dahmeradweg and the Mühlentour. One described circular route leads from Golßen via Kanowmühle Sagritz and Krossener Mühle through Landwehr and then back to Golßen. The Golßen–Prierow–Friedrichshof connection also includes a new, well-developed section of the Gurken- und Mühlenradweg. This gives you several points of reference: named routes, a return journey with listed stops along the way, and a connection with a more closely described stretch of route. You can use these details as a starting point for planning your own tour. The landscape can also be explored on foot: the dune areas between Golßen and Lübben are suitable for walking.

Mills and handmade soaps

Kanow Mill is one of the oldest oil mills of its kind still in operation and has been run by one family since 1815. Visitors can learn about oil production in the farm shop. Another area of craftsmanship can be found at the Gut Sagritz soap workshop, where small batches of handmade soaps are made from organic goat’s milk, vegetable oils and natural essential oils. Oil production at a mill with a long tradition and soapmaking with carefully selected ingredients are two very different discoveries for travellers interested in local crafts.

A seasonal outing and the right accommodation

The renovated PlitschPlatsch outdoor swimming pool is suitable for children learning to swim and is open during the summer season. If you are planning a visit, check in advance whether the pool is currently open. Hotels, guesthouses and holiday apartments are available to guests in Golßen year-round; check which options are currently available before booking. The outdoor pool provides a specific seasonal consideration when choosing when to travel; the architecture, mills and cycling routes offer other themes to consider when planning, regardless of the season.
