Schwalbach am Taunus combines an expansive forest park with trails, water and a historic town center. The Main-Taunus Arboretum, the Regional Park Route and the natural swimming pool each offer something different; the town hall, church, archaeological finds and art add to the picture. If you are looking for accommodation, you can plan your stay around whether nature, exercise, swimming or culture will be the focus.

Forest park and trails in the greenery

The Main-Taunus Arboretum covers around 75 hectares across areas in Sulzbach and Schwalbach: 51 hectares lie in Sulzbach and 23 hectares in Schwalbach. In this forest park, groups of trees and shrubs represent 36 forest regions of the world. The park’s size and its thematic layout are both central to its character. Walkers, joggers, cyclists and riders use the arboretum. For nature enthusiasts, it combines a botanical theme with several ways to enjoy outdoor activity.

The Regional Park Route, which is just over 13 kilometers long, also passes through Schwalbach am Taunus. It runs from the Nidda in Frankfurt’s Sossenheim district to the Opel Zoo in Kronberg. The route and arboretum have different focal points: the route emphasizes its course and endpoints, while the forest park highlights the thematic arrangement of its tree and shrub groups. This makes it possible to distinguish between a defined route and a nature theme spread across an area.

Water and exercise at the natural swimming pool

The natural swimming pool’s bathing area covers 1,340 square meters and has three bodies of water. The swimming pool is around 550 square meters and 1.90 to 4 meters deep; the non-swimmer pool measures around 600 square meters and is up to 1.30 meters deep. In direct comparison, the non-swimmer pool is slightly larger, while the swimming pool has the greater stated depth. A children’s playground, a beach volleyball court, a ball court and two table tennis tables add a range of play and exercise options to the facility. Since opening times can vary by season, check the current schedule before visiting.

Local history and art

The historic center of Alt-Schwalbach is home to the Historic Town Hall and St. Pankratius Church. The parish church was built between 1753 and 1756 and extended in 1964/65. A small exhibition of historical objects relating to local history is located on the first floor of the town hall at Marktplatz 1–2. The exhibits include a Neolithic find and evidence of Roman settlement.

Another Roman-era feature is the Four-Gods Stone in the square east of the forest cemetery: it is a replica of the foundation of a Roman Jupiter column found nearby. The El Lissitzky Avenue adds a distinctive art form: this walk-through sculpture consists of 15 tall concrete steles.

Main-Taunus as a wider theme

In the wider travel destination of Main-Taunus, the Main-Taunus district connects the vineyards of the Upper Rheingau with the forests of the Taunus and various historic sights. Eppstein Castle is one of the region’s historic sites: its walls and grounds, along with the castle museum, show how people in the region lived and defended themselves; its history stretches back more than a thousand years.
