Discover Main-Taunus: Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Main-Taunus
The Main-Taunus district brings together the vineyards of the Upper Rheingau, the forests of the Taunus and a range of historic attractions. This diversity can be seen in its viewpoints, gardens, hiking and cycling destinations, and places where art, archaeology and local history take centre stage. If you are looking for accommodation, consider which of these aspects of the destination you would most like to shape your stay.
Explore the landscape and enjoy the outdoors
Flörsheim Regional Park offers options for family outings, walks and cycling tours. From the park’s observation tower, you can enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding area. Another destination for hikers and cyclists is the Flörsheim Warte: this 15th-century watchtower is a reminder of the Kastel Landwehr. Check local route conditions if you plan to combine your visit with a hike or cycling tour.
More than 6,500 roses grow in Hattersheim’s rose garden; one of its special features is a rose pyramid entwined with climbing roses. Nature and environmental education also have a place at the Weilbach gravel pits: the nature conservation centre has been offering educational activities and advice since 1991. The visitor centre features exhibitions on nature conservation and the development of the region. In Eppstein, idyllic hiking trails are part of the tourist offering.
Historic sites and cultural insights
The winding lanes and historic houses of Hofheim’s old town shape its character; cafés invite you to take a break. The Hofheim City Museum offers further insight into the town with a permanent exhibition on art, archaeology and local history. The 35-metre-high viewing platform of the Meisterturm in Hofheim offers sweeping panoramic views across the Rhine-Main region.
The European House of Worship in Hofheim-Langenhain is open to everyone. For your planning: as of 8 September 2026, daily visiting hours were listed as 9:00 am to 8:00 pm (1 April to 31 October) and 9:00 am to 6:00 pm (1 November to 31 March). Opening hours may change, so check them before your visit.
The buildings also offer contrasting features: St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Hochheim am Main is a landmark with Baroque elements and frescoes. The Hundertwasser House in Bad Soden stands out for its colourful façade and a tower around 30 metres high. The Old Spa Park there dates back to 1823 and combines English garden design with ancient trees.
In Eppstein, the castle walls and grounds tell a story spanning more than a thousand years. Together with the castle museum, they show how people in the region lived and defended themselves. The Flörsheim Warte takes you back to the 15th century; in Kelkheim, the historic Zauberberg complex hosts art exhibitions, concerts and readings. Specific programme details may change, so it is worth checking the current programme. In Kriftel, the Bonifatius Chapel lies on the approximately 180-kilometre Bonifatius Route from Mainz to Fulda.
Hessen as a wider travel destination
In Hessen, diverse natural landscapes cover more than a third of the state, including volcanic plateaus and gently rolling vineyards. An extensive network of hiking and cycling trails, as well as waterways suitable for canoeing, offers further ways to explore Hessen. The Hessian Long-Distance Cycle Route R2, the Rivers Tour, is 202 kilometres long within Hessen and runs along the Ohm, Antreff, Schwalm, Lauter, LĂĽder, Fulda and Sinn rivers.
Choose accommodation to suit your plans
When looking for accommodation in Main-Taunus, it helps to first choose the excursions that interest you: perhaps a day of walking or cycling, a visit to cultural sites, or time spent at viewpoints and nature education centres. When choosing, consider the accommodation’s location in relation to the destinations you actually plan to visit. This way, your search is guided by your planned stay, without assuming that one location will suit every activity.
