Soil, Agriculture and Woodland

Sulzbach (Taunus) combines a distinctive focus on soil with nature experiences nearby. The Sulzbach soil experience stations are located along the Regionalpark circular route in the area of Otto-Volger-Straße / Am Limespark. The two stations, “West” and “East,” were established along the route in Sulzbach in 2015 and illustrate the special soil quality of Sulzbach’s farmland. This brings the nature of the soil into focus alongside plants and fields. For families interested in agriculture and nature, they offer a vivid starting point for conversation connected to the local farmland.

The Main-Taunus Arboretum, nearby Sulzbach, offers a different perspective. It is located between Schwalbach, Sulzbach and Eschborn. Covering around 76 hectares, this park-like woodland features more than 600 tree and shrub species from the Northern Hemisphere; wide paths and narrow trails provide access to the area. The Arboretum’s geological educational trail teaches visitors about the main types of rock found in Hesse. By contrast, Sulzbach’s soil experience stations focus on the quality of the farmland, while the trail turns the spotlight on Hesse’s rocks. The Arboretum complements both themes with park-like woodland and a wide variety of trees and shrubs.

The Main-Taunus-Zentrum opened on 2 May 1964. Alongside the soil experience stations established in 2015, this provides another specific point of reference in the history of visitor attractions in Sulzbach.

In the Main-Taunus: Cultural Landscapes and History

The Main-Taunus region opens up further landscapes and historic places. The Main-Taunus district connects the vineyards of the Upper Rheingau with the forests of the Taunus and a range of historic sights. In Hofheim, winding lanes and historic houses shape the old town, where cafés invite you to take a break. The permanent exhibition at the Hofheim City Museum covers art, archaeology and local history. Eppstein offers a different way to explore history: its castle holds more than a thousand years of history; its walls and grounds, along with the castle museum, show how people in the region lived and defended themselves. In Bad Soden, the Old Spa Gardens date back to 1823 and combine English garden design with venerable, towering trees.

The viewpoints offer different perspectives, too: the Meisterturm in Hofheim has a 35-metre-high viewing platform with sweeping panoramic views across the Rhine-Main region. The Kaisertempel on the Staufen offers views of Eppstein’s old town, the castle ruins and the hills of the Vordertaunus. This lets you compare a wide panorama with a view encompassing specific historic places and landscape features.

Which experiences would you like to shape your stay?

When choosing accommodation, it helps to sort your preferred experiences by theme and location. In Sulzbach, the soil experience stations are the main attraction; the Arboretum is nearby, while Hofheim, Eppstein and Bad Soden offer further examples across the Main-Taunus region. Nature and landscape themes lead to different choices than an old town, museum or castle. First consider which of these interests you would like to shape your stay, then use them to guide your search for accommodation in a suitable location.
