In Bad Vilbel, Roman traces, the history of its mineral springs and green spaces along the Nidda come together. A stay here can offer a variety of experiences, from a museum visit to time in the park and hiking or cycling. The experiences that interest you most are a good starting point for planning your trip.

Roman Traces and the History of the Mineral Springs

In the glass pavilion in the spa park, you can see a reconstruction of a Roman mosaic. It was discovered in 1849 during construction of the Main-Weser railway. At around 33 square metres, it is the only large Roman-era mosaic in Hesse. Its detailed scenes depict sea creatures and mythological motifs. A visit to the park therefore combines time in green surroundings with a close-up look at the Roman past.

The Brunnen- und Bädermuseum (Fountains and Baths Museum) in the historic town centre provides an overview of the more than 450-year history of Bad Vilbel’s mineral springs, as well as their family and industrial history. The exhibits include a reconstruction of a bathing room from 1905 and historic machinery from the last century. A film about modern bottling technology complements the exhibition. The museum therefore presents different aspects of the history of the springs and baths side by side.

The Spa Park and Castle Park on the Nidda

The spa park stretches along the Nidda through the entire town. Its large lawns invite you to relax, play and walk. In the northern part of the spa park, on the banks of the Nidda, stand the remains of a moated castle. Together, the open parkland and historic remains offer different points of interest along a stroll.

Castle Park offers expansive green spaces, tiered seating by the river, a water playground, a Kneipp facility and a skatepark bowl. The park grounds also include a small arboretum with a variety of trees from different continents. If you want to enjoy a range of outdoor activities, you’ll find both peaceful green spaces and several different park features here.

There are five drinking stations in and around the spa park where you can take free drinking cures. Check the conditions on site before your visit. For a longer swim, Bad Vilbel outdoor swimming pool has a 50-metre competition pool; check the seasonal opening dates separately for your intended visit.

Numerous railway stations and stops make it possible to reach the cycling routes in the Wetterau district by public transport. The Wetterau district’s nature reserves are accessible to visitors via information boards, observation points, hiking trails and cycle paths.
