Egestorf: Half-timbered houses, barefoot park and heathland trails
Accommodation in Egestorf
Egestorf between village life and nature
Old half-timbered houses, thatched roofs and stone walls shape the village’s appearance. There is also St. Stephanus, a half-timbered church with a free-standing wooden bell tower and an elaborately decorated altarpiece. The different architectural styles give the village a distinctive historical character amid the natural attractions of the surrounding area.
Dressler's Hus also brings local history to life with an on-site visit. The house, built in 1827, is home to the Tourist Information office, a local history museum, a photo exhibition and a small village museum. Visits to the museum are subject to the Tourist Information office’s opening hours. If you want to include local history in addition to trails and landscapes, keep these hours in mind when planning your day.
Barefoot park and trails through the heath
The Lüneburg Heath Barefoot Park in Egestorf covers around 14 hectares in the Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve and offers more than 60 barefoot stations. The 2.7-kilometre route leads through forests, meadows, fields and streams, with a variety of natural surfaces along the way. The park thus combines a clearly defined route with diverse landscape experiences.
Egestorf also has an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails, as well as marked Nordic walking routes. The Pastor-Bode-Weg leads from Egestorf through woodland and the moorland around Aue and Radenbach, then across heathland to Wilsede. The Pastor-Bode hiking trail also provides access from Egestorf to Wilsede, Wilseder Berg and Totengrund in the Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve. The succession of woodland, moor and heathland gives the trail a varied landscape character. Local trail conditions can change, so it is worth checking the latest route information before setting out.
Places to take a break
Birkenbank is a small heathland area just outside Egestorf, in the direction of Sudermühlen. Beneath the birch trees, there is an elevated seat where you can rest. Naturblick Auberg is near Egestorf, right on the Pastor-Bode-Weg: seating, a distant view and a place to relax are all part of this spot along the trail. The two places offer different experiences—one is a small heathland clearing beneath birch trees, the other a sweeping view along the hiking trail.
If you mainly want to get around on foot, you can include the Pastor-Bode-Weg, which starts in Egestorf, in your plans. If you also want to visit the village museum, bear in mind that it is only open during the Tourist Information office’s opening hours. This lets you balance nature experiences and local history according to your own plans for the day, without every activity having to have the same focus.
Getting there with the Heideshuttle
Egestorf is a stop on the free Heideshuttle circular bus. The Heide-Shuttle carries bicycle trailers, and bicycles can be taken on board at all stops.
