Isernhagen Between Circular Trails and Architectural History
Accommodation in Isernhagen
Isernhagen combines trails through natural and cultural landscapes with swimming spots and historic buildings. This offers several possible ways to shape a stay: you can plan time on circular trails and cycle routes, or explore the area’s architectural and local history.
Circular Trails, Cycle Routes and Wietzepark
The Isernhagen Landscape Discovery Trail is a circular route through varied natural and cultural landscapes. Isernhagen offers cyclists 160 kilometres of recreational routes with scenic highlights and sights. The municipality marks its main connecting cycle routes with signs. This means there are different options: a trail specifically designed as a circular route, and a more extensive network of recreational routes.
The Green Ring also offers a circular route through open landscapes on the outskirts of Hanover. Its Tour II passes through Isernhagen and can be reached via Fasanenkrug and AltwarmbĂĽchen on tram lines 7 and 3. Check current timetables before setting off. This lets you plan the route and tram journey together.
Another option is Wietzepark: approximately half of it lies in Isernhagen and half in Langenhagen. Swimming is possible there, although conditions may vary. The destination offers a choice of ways to spend the day: alongside the trails, you can opt for a park landscape with swimming.
Buildings and Traces of Past Uses
The first farmers settled in Isernhagen in the 13th century. The St. Mary’s Church in Isernhagen K.B. reveals a later chapter of architectural history: it was built in four phases between 1450 and 1703. St. Mary’s Church contains 15th-century wall paintings and was built from bog iron ore found and smelted in the Wietze lowlands of Isernhagen. Its construction period, paintings and building material connect different chapters of local history.
The Wöhler-Dusche-Hof is a rural historic building dating from the late 16th century. While the church brings together several building phases over a longer period, the farmstead is another example of Isernhagen’s historic rural architecture.
The Basselthof was once a horse-changing station on the old post road; an Icelandic horse stud is now located there. The Old Post Road also recalls journeys of the past: visitors can experience the feel of travelling in earlier times on its historic cobbled section. The Flemming clay pit is associated with another historic use. Two farmsteads from AltwarmbĂĽchen used to fire bricks there.
