Langenhagen: Swimming Lakes, Parks and Art
Accommodation in Langenhagen
Langenhagen combines swimming lakes, park landscapes and cultural attractions to create a destination with plenty of opportunities for active days and cultural discoveries. At Silbersee, water and leisure take center stage; the parks offer space for exercise, nature and local history.
Swimming lakes with different features
Silbersee is Langenhagen’s largest swimming lake, covering 68,200 square metres. Its park-like recreational areas offer opportunities for playing volleyball, swimming, jogging, walking and sledding. The reed beds add a natural element, providing retreats for waterfowl and other animals. Leisure activities and wildlife habitats therefore shape the character of the lake in equal measure.
Waldsee is Langenhagen’s second-largest swimming lake and a particularly family-friendly destination. If you are planning an outing by the water, this is a helpful point of reference. Together with Silbersee, Waldsee shows that the city’s swimming lakes each have a different focus.
Park landscapes for exercise and nature
Wietzepark is a landscape park covering around 30 hectares, designed for recreation and ecological diversity. It is used for walking, cycling, jogging and horse riding. Here, the focus is on paths and exercise in a park setting, while swimming, volleyball and sledding are also among the activities mentioned at Silbersee.
Hufeisensee is on the Isernhagen side of Wietzepark. On the Langenhagen side, the park combines natural and landscaped areas. This distinction is useful if you are interested in the different sides of Wietzepark: the lake is on the Isernhagen side, while the park areas on the Langenhagen side bring together nature and landscaping.
The 3.5-hectare Eichen- und Stadtpark Langenhagen is in the centre of the city. Old trees and historic clinic buildings form an important cultural monument there. Fitness equipment is available for recreational sports, while the park also provides a habitat for rare plants and animals. Stadtpark Langenhagen is also a place for walking, relaxing and taking part in sporting activities. The former Rohdehaus, a two-storey half-timbered building that houses the city archive, is located there. The water tower, built in 1905, is used by nature conservation groups and provides information about nesting kestrels. In this way, Stadtpark brings together exercise, nature and historic buildings.
The multi-generational activity park adds to these options with a pétanque court, game tables, a giant chessboard, a ball court and an exercise trail for several generations. The facilities range from games and time spent together to outdoor exercise.
Swimming, art and changing programmes
Wasserwelt Langenhagen has seven sports and leisure pools, a sauna area with a large garden and restaurant areas. Special pool and slide facilities include an almost 100-metre-long tube slide, a 25-metre pool with six lanes and a separate diving pool. If you want to include swimming and other water activities in your stay, you’ll find several different areas here.
Kunstverein Langenhagen presents changing exhibitions and organises events featuring a range of perspectives on contemporary art. Visitor events include guided tours, lectures, discussions, talks and workshops. As exhibitions and specific dates change, it’s worth checking the current programme if you are considering a visit during your trip.
