Discover Pattensen through its routes and history

In Pattensen, circular routes of varying lengths offer historical discoveries. The Pattenser Rundweg starts and ends at the former town hall, while other routes begin at the indoor swimming pool or in the districts. There is also a self-guided town tour and buildings with a long history. You can tailor your stay to suit your interests in exercise, culture or a mix of both.

Circular routes for different day plans

The Pattenser Rundweg is eight kilometres long and runs on flat, paved paths only. Its start and finish are at the former town hall in Pattensen. The route is suitable for walking and cycling, as well as for pushchairs and wheelchairs. At ten kilometres, the Calenberger Ackerweg is slightly longer; it, too, is a flat, paved circular route for walking and cycling. It starts and ends at the Pattensen indoor swimming pool. The length and starting point give you a concrete basis for comparing the routes as you plan your trip.

The 12-kilometre Oerier Wald-und-Flur-Weg also starts and ends at the indoor swimming pool and is suitable for walking and cycling. The Koldinger-Seen-Weg is a 13-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at Lindenplatz in Koldingen. The 12-kilometre Leineauen-Weg has two alternative start and finish points: the toboggan hill in Pattensen on Redener Weg, or the Leine bridge near the NABU in Alt-Grasdorf. The routes therefore differ not only in length, but also in where your tour begins and ends.

For a longer cycling tour, consider the 32-kilometre Ring der Städtepartnerschaft. It starts and ends at the former town hall in Pattensen and runs exclusively on paved paths. Check current path conditions before setting out. It is also worth checking the current route markings for the Calenberger Ackerweg, the Oerier Wald-und-Flur-Weg and the Ring der Städtepartnerschaft.

Town history and historic buildings

With the free Pattensen-Zeitreise app, you can take a self-guided town tour with 16 stops. The stops bring Pattensen’s history to life on site. Check whether the app is available before your trip. This format is ideal if you would like to explore the town’s history independently rather than as part of a guided tour.

History can also be found in the districts. The tower of St. George’s Church in Jeinsen was built in the early Gothic style around 700 to 800 years ago.

At Feste Calenberg in Schulenburg, a district of Pattensen, ramparts, cellars, foundations and the remains of a gun tower have been preserved. Some areas have been closed since 2008. The surviving structures offer an impression of the historic site; bear in mind when planning your visit that not all areas are accessible.

Which accommodation suits your plans?

If you are looking for accommodation in Pattensen, your plans for the day can be a good starting point: are you more interested in a shorter, flat route, a longer cycling tour or the town’s history? The routes differ in length and starting point, while the town tour and historic buildings add cultural exploration to the mix. This can help you decide whether Pattensen offers the experiences that matter most for your stay.

More things to do in the Hanover Region

The Hanover Region also offers a variety of themes to explore. The Herrenhausen Gardens in Hanover comprise the Great Garden, the Berggarten, the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten. The Berggarten evolved from a vegetable and nursery garden into a botanical garden; the Herrenhausen Gardens also offer digital garden rallies and themed tours. Steinhuder Meer offers a different experience: it is north-western Germany’s largest inland lake, is located in the Hanover Region and is best known for its water sports and holiday opportunities. These regional attractions complement Pattensen’s own routes and historical experiences.
