The bathing area in Dahmen is on the southern shore of Lake Malchin. In the Dahmen meadows, a wooden observation tower offers views across the Dahmer Moorwiesen nature reserve and the lake. A campsite by the bathing area, cycle paths and an early Gothic brick church round out the nature and water experiences. You can explore Dahmen in different ways: along the shore, taking in the scenery or out on a bike ride.

Bathing area and lakeside campsite

The shore at the bathing area is sandy and slopes gently. There is also a jetty and a partly shaded sunbathing lawn. The bathing area is unsupervised. Boat hire is available there; check before your trip whether the service is currently available. This means you can consider spending time by the water and taking a boat trip as different options for the day, while keeping local conditions in mind.

A campsite covering 1.4 hectares with 80 pitches is located by the bathing area. Large trees surround the grounds. If you are considering a camping stay, you can factor in the site’s specific size when planning; the number of pitches is a capacity figure, not a guarantee of availability. The campsite and bathing area also serve different purposes: one offers overnight accommodation, while the other is a place to spend the day by the water.

Views and wildlife watching in the Dahmen meadows

The wooden observation tower in the Dahmen meadows looks out over the Dahmer Moorwiesen nature reserve and Lake Malchin. Its amenities include wooden benches and a table for a snack. The tower has space for four to eight people and is considered an ideal spot for wildlife watching and photography. It offers a different perspective on the surroundings from the bathing area: here, the focus is on the landscape and possible wildlife sightings.

From Dahmen, you can reach the tower by walking into the meadows behind the sports ground. A standard passenger car can get as far as the observation tower; otherwise, plan for a walk of about 500 metres. From the tower, you may spot cranes, ospreys and white-tailed eagles. Goosanders are also present as breeding birds. Sightings depend on the season and are not guaranteed—a key difference to bear in mind when planning, compared with a visit to the bathing area. Before your trip, check the latest information on boat hire, pitch capacity and tower facilities.

By bike, on foot and in the village

A paved, well-signposted cycle path runs for three kilometres from Dahmen towards Ziddorf, following the lake and the Mühlenbach stream. Route A of Tour 09 – Castles and Churches Tour in the Mecklenburg Switzerland region – also passes through Dahmen. Check current path conditions before setting out on a bike ride. If you prefer walking, Dahmen offers ways to explore the surrounding landscape.

There is also a place to discover the area’s architecture: the early Gothic brick church is one of Dahmen’s attractions. The German Avenue Route passes through the village. This means the same destination combines wildlife watching and water activities with cycling and walking routes, as well as a cultural attraction. You should then check the specific location and amenities of each accommodation individually.
