Discover Diedrichshagen
Accommodation in Diedrichshagen
Diedrichshagen’s story stretches from an early documentary mention to archaeological traces; the village cinema and kite festival add further highlights, while an annual woodland walk invites visitors outdoors. For planning your trip, this creates a mix of local history, community events, and nature experiences.
History in the Ground
Diedrichshagen was first documented in 1271 under the name “Diderichshagen.” Remains of an ancient, high-capacity production site for iron and charcoal were found in the Diedrichshagen district. Alongside the written record of the place name, these are early traces of economic production.
Some of the hearths at the Diedrichshagen 22 hearth site have been dated to around 550 BC. The belt of cooking-stone pits at the site extends for 955 m.
Village Events and Woodland Walk
The Diedrichshagen village cinema celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025. By 2022, the kite festival in the Diedrichshagen district had already been held for ten years. A notice from October 2024 asked people to bring kites of any design and a good mood.
A popular woodland walk starts each year at the forester’s house northeast of Diedrichshagen. The location of the former municipality of Diedrichshagen was considered scenic; it was surrounded by woods and meadows.
Getting Around Locally
The VG K10 municipal road connects the districts of Diedrichshagen and Guest, coming from the B109, and continues toward Weitenhagen.
In the wider destination of Weitenhagen
The wider destination of Weitenhagen has its own attractions. Weitenhagen’s village church was first mentioned in 1280 and has been the spiritual centre of the House of Silence since 1968. Its 15th-century brick portal features a basket-handle archway and circular blind arches. The churchyard contains three Brigitten crosses, said to commemorate Birgitta of Sweden. The House of Silence welcomes visitors to the church and its grounds.
Weitenhagen also has paths and traces of earlier work: the former narrow-gauge railway embankment connects Weitenhagen and Grubenhagen and is widely used for walking and jogging. Roughly halfway along, it passes the clay pit, a popular place to rest during walks and hikes. The historic Lorendamm is still visible northeast of the clay pit; clay was transported along it to the brickworks in Helmshagen. In Weitenhagen, ecclesiastical architecture, present-day paths, and a visible reminder of the former clay transport sit side by side.
