Baabe between the beach, harbour and Mönchguttor
Accommodation in Baabe
Baabe combines days at the beach with insights into the region’s history and culture. The fine sandy beach, fishermen’s beach and harbour each reveal a different side of this Baltic Sea resort. The Mönchguttor provides a striking landmark: it marks the boundary between the Mönchgut peninsula and the rest of Rügen.
Beach and water in Baabe
Baabe has 1.5 km of fine sandy beach. There are 17 beach access points, offering different starting places for a day by the sea. Stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and sailing are also among the activities available at Baabe beach. The range of activities may vary by season. This makes it possible to plan either relaxing hours by the water or a more active day at the beach, without limiting the resort to just one kind of holiday.
The Mönchguttor and fishing tradition
Built in 2003, the Mönchguttor is decorated with wooden figures of a female farmer, a fisherman, a monk and a knight. The figures are important representations of the region’s history and culture. Anyone interested in Baabe’s regional character will find a distinctive feature here that differs from the beach and watersports: the gate’s design brings together several historical and cultural figures in one place.
At the fishermen’s beach, by beach access point 5, visitors can watch fishermen at work. Fishing has a long tradition in Baabe; whether there is an opportunity to watch depends on fishing activity. The Baltic Sea resort’s events programme runs year-round and includes festivals, spa concerts, children’s activities and readings for guests of all ages. The specific programme changes, so check the current events calendar for individual dates.
Harbour, ferry and routes
Baaber Bollwerk, or the harbour, has moorings for 25 pleasure boats and two passenger ships. A rowing-boat ferry also runs from Baabe harbour to the opposite bank of the Having, taking guests and bicycles to Moritzburg. If you plan to make this crossing, check the latest operating details beforehand.
Baabe’s beach promenade is an extension of Göhren’s “Bernsteinpromenade” and continues from Baabe to the Baltic Sea resort of Sellin. It is a good starting point for walks towards Sellin or Göhren. This offers two different ways to explore the area: following the promenade or crossing from the harbour to Moritzburg. Which one suits your day depends on whether you would rather continue on foot or take the rowing-boat ferry.
For travel between the resorts, bus route 25 connects the Baltic Sea resorts of Baabe and Sellin. The Bäderbahn reaches attractions, the beach and key places in the resorts. These are separate services with different purposes; routes and services may change. Check the latest travel information before setting off.

Vorpommern-Rügen as a wider travel destination
The wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Rügen offers other cultural attractions: the district is known, among other things, for the Störtebeker Festival and is home to an estimated 60 museums. These figures refer to Vorpommern-Rügen, not Baabe alone. They complement local experiences with a glimpse of the cultural diversity across the wider destination.
